CELEBRATIONS AND OBSERVANCES | |
Black History Month
Black History Month is an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history.
The Black History Month 2024 theme, “African Americans and the Arts,” explores the key influence African Americans have had in the fields of "visual and performing arts, literature, fashion, folklore, language, film, music, architecture, culinary and other forms of cultural expression."
Here are some ways we can collectively learn and honor Black History Month:

World Day of Social Justice
World Day of Social Justice is observed annually on February 20.
It is meant to remind people that advocacy and activism are what love and justice look like. It is to uphold the principles of social justice by promoting gender equality, and the rights of indigenous peoples and migrants; it is meant to advance social justice by dismantling and removing barriers that people face because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture, or disability.

Alert San Diego
The emergency notification system can make phone calls to people and businesses in San Diego County when there's an emergency or disaster happening or about to happen. It's used by emergency workers to tell people what's going on and what they should do (like leave their homes, stay inside, or watch out for a gas leak or a missing person). The system can call both listed and unlisted landline phones using the 9-1-1 phone list from the local phone companies.
It can also send alerts to your cell phone, internet phone (VoIP), and email, but only if you register. You don't have to sign up if you have a regular landline phone; they already have those numbers in their system.
When you sign up for AlertSanDiego, you can choose the "Accessible Option" to get these messages in American Sign Language (ASL).

Unlocking the Potential of Community Information Exchange for Whole-Person Care
Karis Grounds, Vice President of Health, Community Impact, 2-1-1 San Diego, and Timi Leslie, President, BluePath Health were featured on Health Answers IT where they discussed the potential of Community Information Exchange for Whole Person Care.
When people are in crisis—whether it’s from a community disaster or a critical need for food, housing, and financial support—it’s hard for them to know where to turn, much less how to best navigate available resources. In these cases, hospitals, police departments, and public health leaders are often relied on for interventions, but they’re not always set up for ensuring long-term, holistic care for individuals and families.
That’s where community information exchanges (CIEs) come in.

The CIE Partner Network works to improve the overall service delivery system for clients. Our meeting provides a forum for partners to share updates about ongoing CIE Initiatives, share trends in our community, and collaborate on how we as a network are leveraging our partnership, data sharing, and the CIE technology platform to address the social determinants of health and increase health equity.
Join us for a range of content. Each month, we may dive into the latest technology projects, elicit feedback on the platform’s care coordination tools, or spotlight programs and supports for unique populations. The partner gathering is a space to engage with peers across our shared network. Join us on the 4th Thursday of every month (except November and December) at 9:00 am via Zoom.
The next CIE Partner gathering is on
