Kohelet (Ecclesiastes) 4:9-10

Two are better than one, for they get a greater return for their labor. For should they fall, one can lift the other; but woe to him who is alone when he falls and there is no one to lift him!

It has been six months, or 183 days, since the life-changing terrorist attacks on October 7th. 134 individuals still remain captive in Gaza.

This is a critical time for the future of Israel and the Jewish people. We know that the events of the past six months have been challenging, frustrating, and filled with worry and uncertainty. As we navigate these pivotal moments together, we are reminded of the enduring strength and resilience that defines us.

Today we want to focus on the actions we have taken and the ways the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston has stood with Israel in the aftermath of the attack. We continue to provide support, resources, and advocacy to help Israelis, and to combat the resulting complexities and increased antisemitism we are facing at home.

The Federation, in partnership with the Houston Jewish Community Foundation has raised a historic $14.8 million for our Israel Emergency Fund. And, with our most recently approved board allocation of $2,125,000, a total of $7.8 million (62.5%) of funds have been distributed.

This chart details the total breakdown by category of the $7.8 million in allocations. The full list of allocations can be found online.

Our latest round of funding provided additional support for basic needs, while also helping meet the growing needs for mental health support and economic recovery. We also made efforts to promote volunteerism in Israel and support Israeli children coming to Texas for camp this summer.

The table below has a detailed breakdown of this round of allocations.

The last six months have been trying. We mourn the loss of life on both sides of the conflict, including the World Central Kitchen aid workers accidentally killed in a drone strike last week. We empathize with all those facing adversity daily, and we pray for a peaceful future for the area.

We hope that this information shows you the value that we have made in helping Israel. The list below shows some other ways that you can help as well.
