National Updates
Update to Health and Human Services 504 Regulation
The US office of Health and Human Services proposed an update to the Health and Human Service regulations that implement section 504 of the 1973 Rehabilitation Act, preventing disability discrimination by those that receive federal funding. These proposed updates can be accessed here.
The Autism Society of America and the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities put together a toolkit addressing these updates which can be accessed at this link.
This proposed update improves consistency with legislation and clarifies obligations that were not covered in the original legislation, prohibiting discrimination on the basis of disability. Comments must be submitted via the Autism Society of America Voter Voice site by November 13th. Access the Voter Voice site here.
Encourage Congressional Representatives to Join the Autism Congressional Caucus
The Coalition for Autism Research and Education (“CARE” or “Autism Caucus”) was created to advocate for autism research, education, and support. Currently the only Nebraska congressional member is Don Bacon from Congressional District 2. The Autism Society of America Voter Voice site has an easy form to encourage your representative to get involved. Access it here.
