Please join us once a month on Thursday evening at 7pm at the Fickett residence for a foster and adoptive mom support group. We will begin meeting on April 11. Whether you are new to fostering, a veteran adoptive mom, or somewhere in between, please join us so that we can support and pray for each other. Questions? Contact Jane Fickett.

YOUTH AUCTION & SPAGHETTI DINNER

Our annual Youth Auction and Spaghetti Dinner is the primary way we raise funds for our youth to serve in missions both locally and globally. This year, our auction will be on Friday, April 12. Dinner and a silent auction will begin at 5:30pm, followed by the live auction at 7pm, which will include things like made-to-order meals, tickets to local events, desserts, babysitting, and much more. We hope you'll plan to join in the fun!

If you have plans to donate items, please see the announcement further down in this email for all of the details!

SPRING WORK DAY

Help get HBIC ready for spring! The Property Committee welcomes you to come out for a work day on Saturday, April 13 from 8am to 1pm. Join us for donuts and coffee, a few hours of work and some pizza for lunch. Bring the family and bring some gloves and we will provide the rest! There will be some indoor and outdoor projects and something for everyone to help with. Please sign up here if you plan to attend!

SPRING WOMEN'S RETREAT

All women are welcome to join the Women's Ministry Committee on April 19 (6:30-8pm) and April 20 (9am-3pm) to fellowship, study the Bible, worship, and grow together at our Spring retreat.

The Friday session is free for everyone and the Saturday session will cost $35. However, there are scholarships available! Cash or check will be due at registration on Saturday morning. It can also be given to the committee before or after services on April 14.

Our keynote speaker, Hannah Marie Woland, will be teaching us about the different styles of the Psalms and how they relate to the different seasons we go through in life. Worship will be led by Julia Presley! There will be three worship and teaching sessions. One on Friday and two more-in-depth teachings on Saturday.

Breakouts will include a life rope reflection craft with Marjie McCandless (special guest); card-making led by Joelle Ewell; exercise; and creative writing (making your own Psalm of lament or praise). We will provide a light breakfast and lunch on Saturday (included in price for Saturday).

Please come and bring a friend! Sign up here if you plan to attend.

HONORING OUR GRADUATES

If you are a soon-to-be graduate or you have a graduate in your household, please fill out this form by April 21 so that we can celebrate with you! This applies to those in both high school and post-secondary programs.

SPRING COMFORTER DAY

A handmade comforter provides not only warmth but also a tangible reminder to people in vulnerable situations that their needs are not forgotten. HBIC will host a day of making comforters on Saturday, April 27 from 9am to 3pm. If you can tie a knot, you can help! If you can sew, you can help! If you can pray, you can help!

So far, HBIC has donated over 100 comforters to Mennonite Central Committee for their relief efforts. Last year, they sent over 59,000 comforters to many countries. The need is great, and we can help. See you on April 27! (Bring your scissors!)

KID'S CHOICE

Each year, we invite members of our church family to come to Kids Club and share a skill/hobby with our children in grades K-5! Each Kid's Choice cycle is 4 or 5 weeks long (April or May) and groups meet on Wednesdays at 6:30pm. Willing to engage with our kids? Sign up here!

CHILD DEDICATION

We will be celebrating Child Dedication on Sunday, April 21! This is an opportunity for you to commit to God to do your best to raise your child as the Lord has taught us. This is also a time where the congregation pledges to support you and your family. We will have a class on April 14 at 11am for all parents who haven't yet taken one. Please sign up here if you're interested and contact Pastor Patty with questions!

WORSHIP DANCE

Worship Dance has reconvened on Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm. Kids and youth in grades kindergarten through high school can participate. No prior dance experience is required! Come to have fun and make new friends.

You can also get your praise on by dancing with flags. The worship flag team will meet on the 4th Saturday of every month starting on April 27 at 1pm for beginners and 2:30pm for returning flag dancers. Contact Kristin Lefever or Pastor Patty for more information.

Sign up here if you're interested in joining either worship dance or worship flags!

DONATIONS FOR THE YOUTH AUCTION

It's that time of year again! We are eagerly looking forward to our youth spaghetti dinner and auction happening Friday, April 12. This is our biggest youth fundraiser of the year! Most of the funds raised go toward our youth mission trip.

In preparation for our event, we invite you to consider donating an item or service that can be auctioned! You can give household items, describe a baked good or food item you will bring to the auction, or offer a service. Some examples of donations given in the past have been babysitting services, yard work, furniture, cakes and lasagna dinners. Please submit blue donation slips (available at the Info Desks in the Sanctuary) to Pastor Brie with details of what you plan to donate (or along with your physical item) by April 7. Thank you in advance for your wonderful support for our youth through the auction!

During 2024, the HBIC Missions Ministry Team is highlighting a different Missionary of the Month, helping the congregation to know more about their work and inviting special prayer for them throughout the month.

Throughout the month of March, please join in praying especially for Jeff and Katie Luehm and family, who are serving in El Salvador. They continue to serve with organizations that empower orphaned and vulnerable children.

Jeff has returned to work with Horizon after about six months away from the organization. Katie continues to support Project RED as she is able, but has also accepted a new position with Whole Child International, where she will work to build capacity within the child welfare system as they transition to family-based models of care.

Riley and Eliana love school, playing with their friends, and spending time in nature. Jose continues to bless the family with his loving, grateful heart and his endless energy, and they are eagerly awaiting the finalization of his adoption process. Katie and Jeff have also embraced their role as grandparents to Matias and have loved watching the incredible transformation that happens during that first year of life, as well as witnessing to Rosa, their "heart-adopted" daughter, learn and grow as a young mom.

Click here to access the Missionaries of the Month page with a number of specific prayer requests for Jeff and Katie and their kids, along with their contact info to send a note of encouragement.

(Touch base with Pastor Lynda or others on the Missions Ministry Team if you'd like to know more about any of the missionaries sent out from HBIC.)

MY COINS COUNT

Every year, we collect coins and online donations to aid Mennonite Central Committee in providing things like clean water and school supplies to children across the globe! Our 5th graders will have a blast sorting and counting the coins together at the beginning of April. Donate change in the bottles in the back of the sanctuary or choose My Coins Count from the menu on our online giving portal now through March 31!

MISSION OF MERCY

The medical clinic that uses our building twice a month to serve our local community is in desperate need of volunteers to help in a few areas:

1.      Registration – they check patients in for their visit, pull charts, coordinate the flow of patients through the clinic, and schedule patients for future clinic appointments.

2.      Lead scheduler – this person or person(s) takes calls during the week from patients and schedules them for the next appropriate clinic day. This is usually done from the volunteer’s home with a schedule and phone we provide.

3.      Interpreters – the need is great and only needed on the days we are in clinic.

Anyone interested can reach out by email at klyons@amissionofmercy.org or by phone at 240-405-5057.

We welcome you to contact us by email or by phone if you have a need. Here is the contact information for our pastoral and office staff.
