Message from the Head of School

Dear MPH,

The weather took a sharp turn this week, and Halloween marked the onset of darker, colder months ahead, but I hope you’ll share in the feeling of joy and community that I carried into this week. Last Friday night I helped chaperone students who were thoroughly getting their groove on at the Middle School dance in the Phoenix; at Saturday’s MPH Model UN conference our Upper Schoolers distinguished themselves with poised, polished leadership and diplomacy; and the weather didn't stand a chance of dampening the enthusiastic spirit at Sunday's inaugural Harvest Fest. I had such a great time connecting with parents, students, and colleagues across all three Divisions - some of them there for all 3 events! - whose collaborative community- building made it all possible.

In my letter to you this summer I wrote about “the power that we all have to make others feel truly connected, simply by being intentional about how we invite them into our lives and into our shared spaces and experiences.” I shared that I would be aiming to create an extraordinary feeling of community at MPH this year, and I hope you have already felt it taking form. I have felt it here in the hallways, at our Celebration at the Everson, on the sidelines both home and away, and at all of the events which have brought together passionate teachers and dedicated parents. Thank you for continuing to invite me into your community every day - let’s keep building it, together.

Best Regards,
Jim

Mark your calendars, encourage your friends, and double the impact of your donation! Our annual Two for Tuesday giving campaign kicks off Tuesday, November 7, and occurs each Tuesday this month: November 7, 14, 21, and 28.

Our goal is to raise over $75,000 in the month of November. Stay tuned for details on how you can help us match dollar-for-dollar or donor-for-donor each Tuesday to support student access and scholarships through The MPH Fund.
Student Eye Screening November 8
Parents who wish for students to participate must fill out consent
On Wednesday, November 8, the Manlius Lions Club will be coming to campus to complete vision screenings for students. This is primarily aimed at Lower School students but is available to Middle and Upper school students as well. This is a non-invasive, painless, and quick opportunity that requires no medication or preparation. Their equipment offers technology that can diagnose many vision problems an eye chart would miss, particularly in our youngest students. For more information go to www.lionskidsightusa.org.

The vision screening does require parental permission. We ask you to complete and return the consent form if you are interested in having your child screened. Please return it in your student’s folder or to the Health Office no later than Monday, November 6. Questions may be sent to our school nurse Christine Civello.
