Pueblo Region Academic Health Partnership 2024 Symposium & Networking Event

CSU Pueblo is hosting the second annual Pueblo Region Academic Health Partnership Symposium & Networking Event, coming up on February 23, 2024, at CSU Pueblo Occhiato Student Center Ballroom. The event will last from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and lunch will be served.

Colorado State University Pueblo and the Pueblo Department of Public Health and Environment (PDPHE) have collaborated to establish the Pueblo Region Academic Health Partnership (PRAHP). PRAHP aims to enhance public health outcomes in the Pueblo region through teamwork in research, community outreach, education, and the creation and execution of public health initiatives. Simultaneously, it offers CSU Pueblo students practical learning experiences and avenues for professional development.

Whether you possess expertise or a keen interest in participating in public health research, outreach, or education, this event is tailor-made for you! It provides valuable information for individuals with inquiries about public health research, those seeking assistance with data analysis, organizations in search of public health interns, or anyone deeply intrigued by Academic Health Partnerships.

The Pueblo Region Academic Health Partnership (PRAHP) consists of the Pueblo Department of Public Health & Environment (PDPHE) along with engaged faculty and staff at CSU Pueblo, predominantly situated in the Health Sciences, Sociology, MAPS, and Nursing departments. Moreover, for this year's event, we have enlisted the involvement of experts at both state and national levels who specialize in Academic Health Partnerships. Furthermore, the previous year's occasion led to the initiation of at least six collaborative projects involving CSU Pueblo faculty, students, and officials from the PDPHE.

NEW: Stay Secure: Understanding CSU's Annual Password Reset

On behalf of the Division of IT

CSU takes cybersecurity seriously. That's why all students, faculty, and staff must update their NetID password every year. As we enter a new semester, it's important to understand this policy and why it matters for protecting university data and accounts.

What is the NetID Password Policy?

CSU requires all NetID account holders to reset their password once per year. Users will receive an email notification when their annual password reset is due. This policy ensures passwords don't remain static and vulnerable for long periods. It's a best practice recommended by cybersecurity experts.

How to Identify Legitimate Update Requests

When your annual password expiration email arrives, how do you know it's legitimate? Here’s what to look for:

The email will come from the NetID@colostate.edu email address.

The message will include your name, NetID, and password expiration date. Along with instructions to update your password.

Links will go to valid CSU sites like netid.colostate.edu, it.colostate.edu, and csupueblo.edu. Hover over links to preview destinations. You can also type these into your address bar rather than clicking a link.

The first email is sent 30 days before the expiration date. We send reminder emails until the password is changed or expires. If you have a recovery email listed, expiration notices go there as well.

You can also verify the password request by visiting the NetID website:

Go to the NetID website and select View/Update > Show My Information. In the NetID Account section, look for Password Changed and Password Expires.

Keeping university accounts and data secure takes teamwork. CSU has policies like the yearly NetID password reset to help. But policies are most effective when users understand them and do their part.

It’s also important for everyone to learn how to spot real emails versus phishing attempts. If in doubt, report it. Contact the Cybersecurity Team via email for help.

Recognizing Physical Accessibility in February!

On behalf of Disability Resources

Colorado State University Pueblo strives to create an environment that is welcoming to people of all abilities. We seek to dismantle barriers to equal opportunity, and embrace the diversity within disability as well as the variety of intersections with other social identities.

Each month, CSUP Disability Resources brings recognition to particular areas of accessibility, and provides resources to encourage equal access within our community. For February, we spotlight physical accessibility, and provide resources for making spaces accessible. We also share resources on accessibility within the Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Denver metro communities.

Full-time staff are expected to complete the availability form by March 1. Assignments will be communicated by end of March. Participate in a Discussion Forum on Free Speech and Democracy

On behalf of Political Science

Free speech is a Constitutional protected and culturally cherished value in the United States. But there have been recent efforts on both the political left and right to shun, censor, or prohibit disagreeable ideas and viewpoints. Amidst all the discussion of cancel culture, anti-CRT legislation, deplatforming, and book bans, what is the real value of free expression for unpopular or even detestable ideas? Are there limits to free expression, in the name of toleration, resisting hate, or the like? Is so, what are those limits? And what can our culture and/or political systems do to create a better “public forum” for debate and disagreement?

Come discuss these issues and more in one of our “Across the Aisle” Deliberative Forum! On the week of March 4th – 8th we will be hosting a number of small group (4-6 people) student discussion sessions on campus around this very topic. The discussion groups will be constructed and moderated to facilitate honest, respectful dialogue amongst students with different party affiliations and ideological perspectives. These series of discussions are part and parcel to research on cross-party dialogue and its effects on attitudes toward democracy. Participants will be asked in the spring to fill out a short survey before the forum, as well as a short survey afterwards.

Join one of these enlightening and rewarding discussions across the aisle! If you are potentially interested, click the link below, or email Dr. Ryan Strickler for more information.
