Dufferin County calls on the Province to prioritize housing and homelessness.

Dufferin County joins the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) in calling for the provincial government to work more collaboratively with municipalities to increase the supply of housing and tackle the homelessness crisis in Ontario.

In Dufferin, there are currently around 800 applicant households on the Housing Access Dufferin Centralized Waiting List, with an average wait of between 4 to 8 years. In 2021, 1 in 10 (or 6,000) people in Dufferin lived in poverty, and 1 in 9 households lived in core housing needs. More information on housing and homelessness in Dufferin County can be found at www.dufferincounty.ca

AMO, a non-profit organization representing almost all of Ontario’s 444 municipal governments, presented housing and homelessness as top priorities for the 2023 provincial budget to the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs.

The federal budget tabled in Ottawa failed to do anything to meaningfully address the housing and homelessness crises Canada faces. Despite housing being one of the most important issues for Canadians – the federal government decided to sit on their hands. We need to make them realize they can’t ignore this issue.
Over the next few weeks, the budget will be moving through the Finance Committee and Parliament and we can keep campaigning to get meaningful support and investment in it.

Write a letter to your MP and the Minister of Finance TODAY, urging them to amend the Budget legislation to include the CAEH's proposed Homelessness Prevention and Housing Benefit. We've drafted a template and made it easy for you to quickly send a message off.

A Municipal Approach To Employment Service System Leadership

As part of the Ontario Government’s plan to transform employment services, a two-stage competitive process was launched for the selection of the Stratford-Bruce Peninsula’s Service System Manager (SSM). Several local OMSSA Members formed a consortium and were awarded the SSM role. Learn more about the work of the consortium and their municipal approach to Employment Services Transformation.

The vision of Employment Services Transformation (EST) is to build a locally responsive employment services system that effectively meets the needs of a diverse range of job seekers and employers in Ontario. If you want fundraising to succeed, you have to do more than simply work hard at it. You have to understand what it takes to create the right environment for fundraising to thrive. That's where The Four Pillars of Fundraising  come in.
