Summer 2017 Internship Highlights

Ben Goldstein, Class of 2020, has had the opportunity to intern with RMS Companies in Stamford, CT this summer. RMS is a full service owner operator  developer of multifamily, student housing, hotels and retail properties located in New York and Connecticut.  Notable  developments include: Hotel Zero Degrees, The Goodwin Hotel, Delmar Southport, The Moderne, BLVD, The Verano, UCONN Residents Stamford, Cooper Square, The Novella and many more. RMS has played a pivotal roll in aiding Stamford to become what it is today.

Ben's summer internship involves closely shadowing founder/CEO Randy Salvatore. Some of the projects that Ben has taken on include carrying out tasks such as; development research, hotel sales, marketing, advertising, and management. Ben says, "Working with Randy Salvatore on a day-to-day basis has been an honor and an amazing opportunity to learn the development business. Randy has been an incredible mentor to me throughout this summer."

Serge G. Virvo is a rising senior in the UConn business school, seeking a finance major and real estate minor.  Serge has had the opportunity this summer to intern with New England Retail Properties Incorporated.  He has worked closely with  Mark D'Addabbo, Matthew Darling, and Matthew Halprin.  The internship consisted of working  in acquisitions and development, as well as performing market analysis, leasing, brokerage, and working with several nationally recognized client retailers.

Weekly site visits include New York, Long Island, Connecticut, and Massachusetts. Serge will then present gathered data to the team for project consideration.  Serge has also had the opportunity to attend the ICSC Deal Making Conference in Boston where he set up meetings with many different brokers.

Serge says "It has been an amazing experience working with the team at NERP. When I was looking for an internship, I thought I would want a job where I was grounded in the office all of the time. When I joined NERP I really enjoyed the fact that every week is different, we are mobile all the time. There is really nothing like being hands-on and working with brokers, owners, and developers and it has been such a fantastic experience for me to learn new things and grow my knowledge of commercial real estate."
