October 25th, 2023

In 1517, Martin Luther realized something was wrong. People were being taught that they could purchase salvation. Luther was shocked and disturbed because what the people were taught about God, was not what God's Word said! Eternal salvation, Luther said, could not be purchased or earned. Salvation could be found in nothing and no one but Christ alone. Luther stated,

"The cross alone is our theology."

In other words, it is not what we do but what God has done in Christ Jesus for us. There is nothing we can do to achieve our own salvation. God took care of it for us in his precious Son. If anyone ever adds, dilutes, or diminishes God's Word, theology goes off the rails falling into a ravine of hopeless despair. The Apostle Paul said,

For I am not ashamed of the Gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.

Romans 1:16

It is beautifully simple and wonderfully true. Christ alone saves. He paid the price for us, so we didn’t have to. That is true love.

This Reformation Sunday do not get too caught up in what Luther and the reformers did - Luther himself would be grumpy about that. Instead, remember what Jesus did. This Sunday, in churches throughout the world, there will be great celebrations joyfully proclaiming what Christ has done. Grace Fellowship will be no exception. See you Sunday as we praise in the morning at church and gather together in the afternoon at Oktoberfest as we celebrate the Savior!

I can't wait!

Prayers

LORD JESUS, HEAL OUR LAND, OUR BODIES, AND OUR HEARTS.

Please pray for. . .

  • Israel. Lord, we ask that you continue to protect and provide for Israel, but we also pray for justice. Please bring your mighty hand upon them and lift them up for we know nothing is too hard for you. The damage done to Israel and its people may endure, but you can bring them justice through this. Thank you, Lord, for always hearing the cry of your people.

  • Growing Grace Fellowship New Building Campaign. Lord, we continue to pray through this exciting process of fundraising for our new church home. We trust in your plan. We pray that you touch all of our hearts to join us on this journey in order to further your Kingdom. Your will be done!

  • Carol Proffitt, who has been sick and is still homebound, and for those who are caring for her. Pray for continued care and provision during this difficult time.

  • everyone in our congregation and their families who are dealing with the pains and trials of cancer and other illnesses including Todd Purse; Connie Kerr; Keith; Chris; Sharon Hlavinka; Rance Ketterling; Darlee, Amanda; Jerry Wiisanen; Rosemarie; April; Suzanne, Mary's sister-in-law; Bonnie Lamotta; Mark Von Soosten, Aaron, Ryan, John Kirchner, Oliver, Debra Ketterling and family, Rita Rodriguez, Julie (Larry Arguello's sister).
