New York City Real Estate Student Field Trip
The annual New York City Student Field Trip and Alumni Reception was held on Thursday, September 28, 2017. Mallika Winsor and Jared Thal from Cushman & Wakefield and colleagues presented students with a comprehensive overview of how the brokerage industry functions. Students gained insight to the workings of a deal with a specific focus on Cushman & Wakefield's deal with Shake Shack and their headquarters relocation. Stuart Romanoff and Mark Boisi from Cushman & Wakefield presented on the future plans for the 277 Park Ave property as well as the development of 860 Washington Street in the meat packing district which allowed students to see how commercial properties can be created and the risk and reward in doing so.

Students also visited with Kroll Bond Ratings Agency with Keith Kockenmeister, Nelson Jayakar and Ravish Kamath. Kroll Bond Ratings Agency explained the process of rating debt securities and their issuers. Ravish Kamath spoke of how Kroll Bond Rating Agency strives to be accurate in its ratings; students learned that integrity in ratings is a priority. Ravish talked about how Kroll Bond Rating Agency strives for consistency in how it rates bonds. The presentation familiarized an aspect of real estate many students were not acquainted with.

Mark Fischer, CBRE Capital Markets and Stephen Klufas and Justin Preftakes from Barings graciously permitted students to sit in on a lively investment committee meeting between the two firms. The students were presented the investment opportunity that flowed right into dialogue that provided insight as to how an investment committee is actually conducted. Students were able to apply concepts learned in the classroom to this unique experience.

We are grateful to each and every firm that opened its doors and gave our students the opportunity to learn about NYC real estate at its finest; we look forward to working with our alumni and friends in the future.
