Village of Long Grove Long Tops in Best Places Rankings

The Village of Long Grove has once again made national rankings, having been declared #1 in Best Place to Raise a Family in Illinois for 2024, according to Niche, an online research site that uses public data sets and reviews on real estate, education, outdoor activities, and more. Long Grove was ranked the #3 Place to Live in the Chicago area, following Naperville at #1 and Clarendon Hills at #2.

The Village was ranked #1 of 368 Illinois communities to raise a family, and it was also ranked #1 in the best places with public schools. Long Grove was rated #2 nationally in Best Places to Raise a Family, with Chesterbrook, Pennsylvania, coming in at #1.

“We are pleased to receive this recognition from Niche. Our efforts to preserve historic buildings and green spaces and remain true to our unique charm are what make this village special,” stated Village President Bill Jacob

She will bring her architectural and project management experience to assist the committee as they manage the future development of Long Grove.

Jeff Burke, is an experienced operations management professional with expertise in supply chain management, logistics, and systems implementation. As a volunteer, Jeff has served as the former Chair of the Hoffman Estates Environmental Commission, and past President of the Society of Plastic Engineers (Chicago Section). His goals include offering his expertise to enhance environmental education, encouraging environmental stewardship, and participating in the Illinois Route 53 Greenway initiative.

Farewell Clerk Schmitke

The Village Board of Trustees honored Village Clerk Michele Schmitke for devoted service at her final board meeting on March 26th. Michele and her family are moving out of the area and we wish her success in her new endeavors.

Ruth Barn Moving To Its New Location

The first phase of preparation for the Village Hall expansion project is set to begin with the installation of concrete piers to support the Ruth Barn. Once the concrete has cured, the historic barn will be moved to its new location near the Archer School building. The barn move is necessary to accommodate the expansion of the Village Hall’s expanded footprint, with construction scheduled to begin in May.

Village Hall Expansion Update

The culmination of a year of planning will be realized as construction will commence on our village hall. Bear Construction of Rolling Meadows, Illinois, was selected by the Village Board of Trustees to serve as the contractor who will construct an addition to the existing site.

Village President Bill Jacob stated, “This is a very exciting time for the community; our expanded footprint will provide new meeting space, complete ADA compliance, and modern amenities that will permit our staff to collaborate and serve residents in a more efficient manner.”

We will be posting photo and video updates of the construction project on our social media outlets and You Tube channel. If you aren’t following the village, we urge you to use the links at the bottom of this newsletter to sign-up.

New Mario Lopez Christmas Movie Filming in Long Grove

The filming of My Grown-Up Christmas Wish, featuring Hollywood star Mario Lopez alongside his wife Courtney Lopez, began on March 25th in downtown Long Grove. The story is about a boy’s Christmas wishes coming true as a grown man. The film will contain dance and musical numbers and will be filmed in its entirety within the village.

While in the area, Mario is also taping his nationally syndicated television show, Access Hollywood. Without a doubt, there will be some additional buzz in the village that will translate to business for our merchants and attract visitors who may become repeat customers once they experience Long Grove.

This production will provide tremendous visibility to Long Grove, as Mario will be posting to social media from the set each day. We hope everyone will support this wonderful project by liking and sharing posts from the Historic Downtown Long Grove Business Association and the village to extend the reach of this positive publicity.

You Can Keep Fabric Out Of The Landfill

In the United States, approximately 66% of unwanted clothes end up in landfills. Placing textiles in landfills generates additional greenhouse gases and leaches toxic chemicals and dyes into underground water tables and our soil. You can make a difference by donating unwanted clothing for fabric recycling. The village participates in a recycling program with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO). Your donations of new and gently used clothing and textiles are tax-deductible.

Our local collection box is located in the parking lot at Robert Parker Coffin and Archer Roads.

A complete list of accepted items is available on our website. Donations are accepted 24/7 in the box, or next to it in sealed plastic bags.

The collection site is offered in conjunction with the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County (SWALCO). Keeping items out of the landfill is good for our environment. Let’s work together to reuse and recycle.
