Mission: "To create substance-free, open-minded, safe spaces open to everyone to tackle mental health and substance use among our peers."

"THE TIGER HOTSEAT"

B.E. Well, students have gotten approval from Principal Vergara to move ahead with filming and doing live at lunch, their version of 'Hot Ones' with B-E Staff. "The Tiger Hot Seat" will be a time for staff and students to get to know one another by asking interview questions while progressively eating hotter and hotter chicken wings. If you are unfamiliar with this show, we encourage you to check it out. It will be AMAZING, and we are excited to have a fun way to build better relationships between students and staff.

They need soda and candy donations for Movie Night! If you are interested in supporting Movie Night, let Käaren know! Please email her at kaaren.flint@unitedgeneral.org.

Legislative Updates

Narcan (naloxone) & Public Schools

Recently, WA state lawmakers unanimously passed legislation requiring all public schools to carry Narcan (naloxone). Bill 5804 has been sent to the governor for his signature.

Another recently passed bill is Bill 1956, which would require schools to provide education about fentanyl and other opioids in health classes to as many seventh and ninth-grade students as possible during the remainder of the 2024-25 school year after materials are updated and annually to seventh and ninth graders every year after that.

Community Closet at B-EHS Update

BHCC member, B-EHS substitute, and B-E parent Dayle Fortune has been diligently working on bringing the closet "up to snuff" and back into working order.

Earlier this month, Dayle, Tessa, and Käaren met with Principal Vergara and are brainstorming new ways to make the closet more accessible and how we can provide students with more autonomy and anonymity.

Stay tuned for more information as it develops!
