NOVEMBER 2023

Welcome to November!

Fall colors are everywhere you go - whether it is outside for a walk or inside at STGN.

Don’t you love how Amy’s “Throwover Sweater” matches the leaves that are falling outside? Amy used Berroco Ultra Alpaca and shared a bundle of Blue Sky Fibers Woolstock Minis with Karen Stoltz.

Just wait until you see Karen Stoltz’s "Throwback Sweater". Both patterns are by Andrea Mowry and are available on Ravelry.

Spiral Grain

from Urth Yarn

This is a light worsted weight yarn that is three color plys twisted together, mirroring the spiral grain growth pattern found in trees. It is a hand-dyed yarn from Turkey and would make a lovely scarf, cowl or sweater. We really want to make "The Shift" out of it by Andrea Mowry. This pattern is available on Ravelry.

Mismi

from Mirasol

Ready for some super soft yarn? Look at Mismi, from Mirasol Yarn. This 100% Alpaca yarn would make an amazing "Bias Before & After Scarf" by Churchmouse Yarn & Teas, available on Ravelry. It would also make a cute "Whizzbees Beanie" by Jennie Noto. See this picture on Ravelry.

National Parks Hats Tour

Winding Down

We are concluding our Knitting the National Parks series of knitted hats. This month, we are featuring the "Haleakala hat". We have a limited number of hat kits and when they are gone, they are gone. We will not be making individual hat kits after that; however, we have some great choices of yarn to choose from for you to continue making these hats. We have used Malabrigo Rios, Falkland Worsted from Queensland Collection, Emma’s Washable Worsted and Berroco Ultra Wool for our hat kits.

Georgia Rustic Sheep Trunk Show

November 11th

Joanne Maki is the shepherdess who raises Gulf Coast Native Sheep. She will be here from 11:00-4:00 to share her knowledge about this endangered breed of sheep. She will also have yarn and fleeces to sell.

At 12:00, she is going to give a brief talk about this rare breed of sheep. Joanne has lots of fascinating information to share. We hope you will join us.

Classes! Classes! Classes!

Be sure to check out our classes this month. Charles Gandy, Carol Martin, Karen Stoltz, Kim Martin, Lyn Hart and Barb Carroll are teaching for us this month. We are so grateful to have so many talented instructors.

Finally, these have been a heavy few weeks for our country and around the world. I know we always try and write upbeat and happy posts for our social media and newsletter, but in sad times, it can sound silly and maybe even disrespectful. Please know that those of us at STGN care deeply about what is happening to those affected by wars and gun violence. Our hearts are heavy, and it is at times like these, we turn to resources like our family, our friends, our faith, and the beauty of nature to help us cope with such sadness. We also use our crafts, like knitting, weaving, spinning, crocheting, etc., to calm our anxious hearts and soothe our hurting souls.

“In the rhythm of the needles, there is music for the soul.”
