Walnut Capital's plan for more Oakland housing gains momentum

A proposal by developer Walnut Capital to build about 200 apartment units on McKee Place in Oakland has passed its first big test.

Pittsburgh planning commission members voted unanimously Tuesday to recommend a zoning change to city council that would enable the proposal to move forward.

The McKee Place redevelopment wasn’t the only large Oakland project to go before the commission Tuesday. Carnegie Mellon University also briefed members on its plans to build a new Hall of Sciences next to the Carnegie Museums complex...Read More

Fountain Residential puts cost of new Uptown project at more than $100 million and plans to start construction this year

Texas-based Fountain Residential, long delayed in pursuing city approvals, is ready to move forward with a new retail-and-apartment development along Fifth Avenue in Uptown to neighbor what's expected to be a restored Tito House in the corridor.

The company briefed the Pittsburgh Planning Commission on its proposal, one that's been in the works for a couple of years that faced some delays over preservation challenges involving the former Tito House and an accompanying garage to be incorporated into the new redevelopment.

Brent Little, a principle for Fountain Residential, reiterated the basic plan in introductory statements before the presentation, which include buying and donating the former Tito House on Fifth Avenue - one of the last single family houses in the neighborhood - to Uptown Partners of Pittsburgh to be restored....Read More

While a portion of the company's lease in the building extends until 2029, Duquesne Light acknowledged the search as the lease term on some of its space in the building at the corner of Smithfield and Seventh expires soon...Read More
