Passing of a Washington Mapmaker and Friend of DCCA
|
|
Don Hawkins, noted architect and expert on our capital city's historic buildings and land, recently passed away leaving behind a legacy of innovative studies and shared knowledge. In 2018, when DCCA was first approached by the community on the issue of safeguarding the landmarked 16th Street Scottish Rite Temple from development, DCCA engaged Don to study the situation. His input helped DCCA understand the ways our citizens association could most effectively take action on the issue. Don was detail-oriented, and in return for the small stipend we paid him, he gave an outsized effort at explaining the situation to DCCA board and association members alike. For that we are grateful and we will miss him. Click to read his obituary or the Washington Post piece about Don's life and career (paywall).
