Mayor Sachs addressing and answering the concerns and questions of a multitude of local residents at the earlier Lyons Road Community Meeting regarding Palm Beach County road construction.
As mayor of Palm Beach County, I especially understand the continuing seriousness and urgency concerning the many unique challenges and issues that my numerous fellow constituents have continued to face due to our county's fairly complex yet incredibly essential public road infrastructure project.

To keep the residents and communities in District 5 fully apprised of this evolving situation, leading Palm Beach County Engineering and Public Works Department staff members recently shared another update on the construction at Lyons Road. In doing so, our county's public traffic and construction experts specifically addressed the widening of sections of Lyons Road between the LWDD L-38 Canal and Atlantic Avenue from two to four lanes. Expediently given just one week after my prior Lyons Road Community Meeting that took place on Jan. 26, 2024, their update, as of early February 2024, is as follows:

  • The road construction contractor successfully removed barricades that had been in place on all lanes beginning southward from around 156th Ct. S. As such, all northbound and southbound lanes located to the south of this area have since been fully opened to the public and will likely encounter only intermittent closures in the future as the project overall is further carried out.

  • Sidewalk construction crews continue to work on the portion of the sidewalk along the east side of Lyons Road between Saint Mary's Church and Joseph's Classic Market.

  • Asphalt crew laborers have finished paving the applicable turn lanes and the median crossover located near the entrance to Mizner Country Club. With respect to this same entrance on Lyons Road, a new traffic light with a left-turn signal has now been slated for installation in the near future.

  • Pursuant to the earlier request of the President of the West Boca Community Council, Sheri Scarborough, rumble strips were successfully implemented along Lyons Road at the Escondido and Timbers of Boca communities.

  • Road engineers have started the necessary preparatory work for their future widening of the Atlantic Avenue and Lyons Road intersection, which must occur for our public road project to be completed. The barricades in this area are to remain where they are until all construction at this intersection is finished, with June 2024 as the estimated completion date.

  • That said, local drivers can expect intermittent lane closures in and around the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Lyons Road in mid-February 2024 while our county's many hardworking engineers and construction crews carry on in their respective endeavors.

As we keep reaching ever-greater project milestones in our public road construction, we as a community must also be prepared to adapt to and overcome the many new logistical and infrastructural hurdles that will inevitably arise as we continue to carry out this advancement. As your mayor, I will adhere to this very same responsible leadership strategy regarding my civic duties in reporting the developments in road construction.

Stay tuned for further updates, notifications and other important reports on future traffic and construction developments.
