Hello Alison,

CONGRATULATIONS!

Congratulations to Jo Alvis, Manager/CEO, on her recent retirement! Jo dedicated 33 years to serving ACIPCO Federal Credit Union and its members, and has been a huge part of the success the Credit Union has seen. Jo spent the first eight years of her career at various credit unions around Birmingham, working her way from the teller line to loan officer. She began her tenure with AFCU in June 1991 as a loan officer, quickly working her way up to Loan Manager, then Assistant Manager/COO. After Mike Harrell’s unexpected passing in 2015, she was named the Manager/CEO, and continued Mike’s legacy of member service and personal touch with AFCU members. Despite the big shoes to fill, she did so with unmatched loyalty and dedication. She has been, and will continue to be greatly missed by the employees and members. We wish her the best and a long and happy retirement!

I had the great privilege to work alongside Jo and Mike for many years, and I hope to put to good use everything they taught me. The phrase “WWMD…What Would Mike Do?” still runs through my mind, as it often did Jo’s, when presented with a decision. I greatly appreciate this opportunity, and my wish is to carry on their legacy of leading the Credit Union into continued success. However, this is only possible with the excellent staff and Board of Directors that we have. Their dedication to the Credit Union and to the

members is what makes ACIPCO Federal Credit Union what it is today.

As the Credit Union continues to grow, we intend to maintain excellent member service, while providing the products and services our members expect from their financial institution. We encourage you to let us know what areas you may feel need attention or any products or services you would like to see us add. Our desire is to remain the first choice for financial services for ACIPCO employees, retirees, and their family members!

Money-Smart Actions to Take During Financial Literacy Month

Did you know that April is Financial Literacy Month? A month devoted to learning about money may sound extreme until you read the stats. According to a recent survey, only 57% of adult Americans understand basic financial concepts.

A lack of financial understanding could be dangerous for your wallet. So here are some actions (based on fundamental financial concepts) that will boost your saving power.

In Mobile or Online Banking, click the “Pay” button on any of your AFCU loans to pay by debit card or electronic transfer. The system also has the ability to set up recurring payments, so you can set it and forget it! Call and speak with one of our Member Service Representatives for more details.

Home Equity Loan vs. HELOC

Using the equity in your home to pay off unsecured debt and/or make home improvements can be a hard financial decision. Low annual percentage rates, tax-deductible interest, and streamlining your monthly payment makes second mortgages extremely attractive. Meanwhile, using your home for collateral is a decision that should be weighed carefully.
