The endearing musical Tuck Everlasting takes the stage
at Fauquier Community Theatre
by Stub Estey
Fauquier Community Theatre brings the musical Tuck Everlasting to the FCT stage on Fridays and weekends May 3-19 at the Vint Hill Theater on the Green. Based on the best-selling children’s classic by Natalie Babbitt the story begins around the village of Treegap, New Hampshire in 1893.
Eleven-year-old Winnie Foster lives with her mother Betsy Foster (played by Belén Rodas), and Nana (Lori Roddy). Winnie runs off one day to explore the “forbidden” woods behind her house and meets the mysterious Tuck family. She befriends the family (pictured below) including the mother Mae Tuck (Sarah Bright), the father Angus Tuck (Paul Thornton), and brothers Miles Tuck (Robert DeBroeck) and Jesse Tuck (Joshua Starzyk).
| |
Winnie soon discovers the Tuck’s family remarkable secret! Then she faces the difficult choice of returning to her rather ordinary life or continuing with the Tucks on their everlasting journey. No story like this would be complete without a villain: a carnival barker called the Man in the Yellow Suit played by Warrenton resident Scott Pierce. He knows about the magical secret and is determined to capitalize on it.
Winnie’s disappearance from home is investigated by Constable Joe (amusingly played by Jamey Pellegrini) and his bumbling young deputy Hugo (comically performed by Luke Tessier.) The cast of 28 youth and adult actors in FCT’s main stage production will delight audiences with song and dance numbers that bring the novel to life in a magical way!

Joshua Starzyk (Jesse), pictured above on the left, is a graduating senior at Colgan High School and in his second production with FCT after Once Upon a Mattress. Josh will be attending a prominent university in the fall, majoring in theater.
Thirteen-year-old Fauquier County resident Lucy Underwood, pictured above, and below in photos, was cast in the role of Winnie Foster and has been performing since the age of four, including roles at FCT in James and the Giant Peach, and Gift of the Magi – the Musical.

Sarah Bright (Mae) pictured above on the left, recently moved to Virginia and has theater credits in Chicago, Germany and the United Kingdom. Her trademark “triple threat” talent style of mastering acting, singing, and dancing was seen on the FCT stage last year. As Christine in Dirty Rotten Scoundrels she received high acclaim in a review by DC Theater Arts.
Since its original publication – which was translated into 27 languages – Tuck Everlasting sold over 5 million copies. The book was adapted to a Broadway musical by Claudia Shear and Tim Federle, with musical score by Chris Miller and Nathan Tysen.
Fauquier Community Theatre's production team of Tuck Everlasting includes director Jack Tessier, assistant director Michael Pryor, vocal director Cate Murray, and choreographer Gabrielle Tessier. Claire Anderson is the costumer and Morgan Gallagher is the set designer. Samantha Wong and Ryan Balint are co-producers.
Opening night for FCT’s production of Tuck Everlasting is May 3, and the show continues Fridays and weekends through May 19. Friday and Saturday performances take place at 7:30 pm and Sunday matinees at 2:00 pm. Fauquier Community Theatre is located at 4225 Aiken Drive, Warrenton, Virginia.
All tickets ($18 - $22) are for reserved seating and available online at www.FCTstage.org or by calling 540-349-8760. Audiences of all ages are sure to enjoy the Tuck Everlasting story with the talented cast performing lively song and dance numbers.

Horton the Elephant, the Cat in the Hat and all of your favorite Dr. Seuss characters spring to life onstage in Seussical JR., a fantastical musical extravaganza from Tony-winners, Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty.
Transporting audiences from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus, the Cat in the Hat narrates the story of Horton the Elephant, who discovers a speck of dust containing tiny people called the Whos.
Horton must protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, and he must also guard an abandoned egg that’s been left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
Space is limited and registrations fill quickly. Come celebrate summer with Fauquier Community Theatre's musical theatre youth programs!
The production is by special arrangement with Music Theater International.
(Noting here that the Seussical JR. Summer Camp on July 29 - August 4 reached capacity quickly and had many on the waiting list. That is why the additional Seussical JR. summer camp was added.)
