If you are interested in starting the transition into the Self Determination Program, you must attend an orientation. The orientation will prepare you for the transition process.
Please RSVP by emailing NLACRC the consumer’s full name and date of birth to selfdetermination@nlacrc.org. Orientations are held via Zoom from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm.

At Claudia Cares Consulting, Inc. They believe that every individual with a disability has the right to live a Self-Determined, independent, and fulfilling life. They believe that individuals with disabilities should get to choose how they spend their time, who they spend it with, and who will help them reach their goals. Claudia Cares Consulting, Inc. has been helping individuals transition into the Self-Determination Program since 2019, and is a culturally-competent and LGBTQ-affirming team of experts in the fields of special education, behavior analysis, social work, and mental health. They are pleased to provide one-on-one coaching to individuals and families who would like to learn more about the Self-Determination Program, determine if the program is a fit for their needs, and help them navigate resources and opportunities to help them enter SDP https://www.claudiacares.com/ | The Legacy Center offers one-to-one coaching to consumers and families exploring or starting the transition to Self Determination. Sessions can be booked individually or in small groups at no cost. Coaching includes exploration and discussion based on each consumer’s situation, needs, and desires around SDP. Disability Voices United hosts SDP Connect that is a weekly information-sharing Zoom meeting for Self-Determination Program (SDP) participants for all of California family members, independent facilitators, FMSs, regional center staff, service providers, and anyone else who is interested in moving the SDP forward! The Ombudsperson assists regional center consumers and Self-Determination participants and their families to participate in the program. If you need help, contact the Ombudsperson at:

Ombudsperson Responsibilities:
- Provides information to regional center clients and their families,
- Facilitates solution to disagreements,
- Investigates complaints regarding implementation of the program,
- Recommends strategies for change to the department and the legislature, and
- Compiles and reports data to the legislature.

Responsabilidades del Defensor del Pueblo:
- Brinda información a los clientes del centro regional y sus familias,
- Facilita la solución de desacuerdos,
- Investiga quejas sobre la implementación del programa,
- Recomienda estrategias para el cambio al departamento y a la legislatura, y
- Recopila y reporta datos a la legislatura.

What is a Financial Management Service (FMS)?
Everyone who participates in Self-Determination is required to use a Financial Management Service (FMS). FMS agencies help people manage their budget and spending plan, but they do not control the budget or spending plan. The FMS ensures that payments are made on time for the services that you are using. Your FMS will also monitor your funds to ensure that you have sufficient funds to support your needed services. They will provide you with monthly reports. An FMS can also support you to:
- *Hire employees, verify provider qualifications, and get criminal background checks completed if necessary.
- *Follow all employment laws and tax requirements.

¿Qué es un Servicio de Gestión Financiera (SGF)?
Todas las personas que participan en el Programa de Autodeterminación están obligadas a utilizar un Servicio de Administración Financiera (FMS). Las agencias de FMS ayudan a las personas a administrar su presupuesto y plan de gastos, pero no controlan el presupuesto ni el plan de gastos. El FMS garantiza que los pagos se realicen a tiempo por los servicios que está utilizando. Su FMS también monitoreará sus fondos para asegurarse de que tenga fondos suficientes para respaldar los servicios que necesita. Le proporcionarán informes mensuales. Un FMS también puede ayudarle a:
* Contrate empleados, verifique las calificaciones de los proveedores y complete las verificaciones de antecedentes penales si es necesario.
