Reading the Passion Gospels on Palm Sunday and Good Friday

Each year on Palm Sunday we read the Passion Narrative from the appointed Gospel. This year it is Mark. Because Holy Week invites us to enter in as fully and intentionally as possible everyone has a part to read. We assign the parts of Jesus and Narrator to those on our regular rota of readers. In addition, a few of you, as you enter church, will be asked if you are willing to read a small part from your pew and, if yes, then given the script. The congregation also has lines – which are bolded in the bulletin. The Passion is the account of Jesus’ final hours and include his death – a death which we know is not the end of the story, and we participate fully aware that in three days’ time the tomb will be empty, God will be glorified, Jesus will be raised, and the gift of eternal life will be won for us all.

On Good Friday we read the Passion from the Gospel of John. We have three assigned readers: a narrator, Jesus, and Pilate. Again, the congregation will be asked to read smaller parts from their seats, and the congregation will read the bolded lines in the bulletin.

Take time to think about how this makes you feel. What it makes you wonder about. And then open your hearts to God in prayer.

Good Friday Offering

It is traditional in the Episcopal Church to take up a collection for the Anglican Church in Jerusalem on Good Friday. This is an ancient tradition begun by St. Paul in the first century of the fledgling Christian Church. Please place your offering in the plate as you enter the church. The total offering from Trinity Church will be sent to Jerusalem to be used for their many needs during this very turbulent time in the Middle East. Thank you for your generosity.

Easter Flowers

If you would like to dedicate Easter memorial flowers, here is the form to fill out and turn in. You may place it in the collection plate or hand it to one of the ushers. The deadline for your Easter flower dedication to make it into the Easter Sunday program is Palm Sunday, March 24th. Please try to get it in before that. The altar guild always ensures the altar and the church are beautifully decorated for Easter, and that is thanks to all of us who place Easter memorials. Thank you.

Last Sunday's Sermon

By Mother Susan

Well, we have arrived at the Fifth Sunday in Lent so it should be no surprise that our gospel points toward the cross. “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.”
