Advent in Plain Sight

Back during Lent, we read together, Lent in Plain Sight by Jill Duffield. As we read together, I preached out of her book, using the same common objects to talk about the meaning of the season. That worked so well we thought we’d do it again!

So, this Advent, we’ll be reading Rev. Duffield’s Advent in Plain Sight. Just like during Lent, she uses everyday objects to bring home the meaning of the season: waiting, anticipating, the arrival of the Christchild and the advent of God come to earth.

Here’s what to expect:

  • Sermons keyed to those objects
  • A weekly study following the devotional. If you’d like to sign-up for that, please email me
  • A rich addition to your own experience of Advent.

It’s easy to get busy during this season and miss the meaning. Advent in Plain Sight helps us stay focused. Grab your copy from your favorite bookseller, buy it from the Mulberry Market, and together, we’ll keep a holy Advent.

The Ainsworth Choir Service of Lessons and Carols

Sunday, December 3 | 11:00 am worship

The Ainsworth Choir will join with singers all over the world who present a traditional Service of Nine Lessons and Carols as part of their Advent and Christmas observance. Based on a service that has been presented continuously since Christmas Eve of 1918 by the choir of King's College, Cambridge, it presents the narrative of the Messiah in scripture lessons and corresponding choral selections. In our service, the readings will be presented by students in the Mulberry Youth Group, and the choir's carols will be performed by the Ainsworth Choir. The congregation will enjoy beautiful renditions of familiar carols, as well as choral pieces that are new to their ears and sure to become favorites. The Service of Nine Lessons and Carols will serve as the entire Worship Service at 11:00 am on Sunday December 3. It will last approximately an hour and fifteen minutes.
