Happy New Year, Los Angeles!

As we close out 2024, we reflect on a year filled with unwavering dedication to advocacy, support, and justice for Los Angeles. This year, we were incredibly proud to serve a city as diverse and resilient as ours — and, of course, thrilled to celebrate our Los Angeles Dodgers on their World Series victory!

As we reflect on the successes of this past year, we also look ahead to the ongoing work, which lies before us. We continue to fight for justice, while we acknowledge our work to maintain and strengthen the City's diversity, equity, and accountability to create an #LAForAll. None of it would have been possible without our incredible partners and dedicated staff, who have been instrumental in building this department over the past four years.

Since we were established in 2020, it has been a privilege to guide our team in our shared mission to protect the civil and human rights of every Angeleno. Leading this department under the visionary leadership of Mayor Karen Bass has been an incredible honor. In fact, this month, we celebrated Mayor Bass’s successful second year in office. Her unwavering support for the LA Civil Rights Department and her remarkable efforts to create a safer, more accessible, and equitable #LAForAll have set a powerful example of leadership. Congratulations Mayor Bass on this special milestone! Click here to find out all the ways Mayor Bass delivered results to move Los Angeles FORWARD!

I am also deeply grateful for YOUR continued commitment to this work, as well as your support and invaluable partnership. I invite you to join me in recommitting to build a better, more inclusive, and fair Los Angeles For Everyone. As the ball drops and a new year begins, one thing is certain: LA Civil Rights will remain steadfast in our mission to make Los Angeles shine even brighter in the new year!

Here’s to a brighter, stronger 2025. Let’s make it a year to remember—3, 2, 1... Happy New Year! 🎉

Keep the faith and keep the fight,

Capri Maddox, Esq.

Executive Director

LA Civil Rights Department

P.S. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who stepped up while I was under the weather — my voice is back, and your support meant the world to me. As a friendly reminder: don’t forget to get your flu shot and updated COVID booster! Stay safe and healthy, LA!
