We are excited to share with you news of our new mascot, Huskies! Now that we have named a new mascot, the next phase is to develop the design. We look forward to working with our community partner, J2 Marketing, in the months ahead. By Fall 2024, we will unveil the Saint Joe Huskies brand and introduce new spirit wear, team gear, and merchandise.

Ben Dillon '86, embarked on his teaching career following a brief stint at the Rabbi Naftali Riff Yeshiva. With a heart dedicated to nurturing young minds, Ben returned to his alma mater, bringing with him a wealth of experience and knowledge. Over the years, he has become a cornerstone of the Saint Joe faculty, touching the lives of countless students through his dedication to teaching.
His journey through the halls of Saint Joe has been as diverse as it has been enriching. From teaching a plethora of courses in the Math Department to embracing the challenges of Computer Science, Ben's commitment to academic excellence knows no bounds. Yet, his contributions extend beyond the classroom, as he has taken on various roles including Yearbook advisor, Chess Club moderator, and Quiz Bowl coach, among others. Reflecting on his time at Saint Joe, Ben fondly recalls the camaraderie amongst faculty members, cherishing memories of collaboration with esteemed colleagues such as Tom Gerencher and Doug Miller. Their shared passion for education and unwavering dedication to their students have left an indelible imprint on the fabric of the institution.
For Ben, Saint Joe isn't just a workplace; it's home. The nurturing environment and sense of community have kept him rooted in his career, allowing him to thrive and evolve as an educator. His unwavering commitment to fostering a love for learning amongst his students is a testament to his enduring passion for teaching. As the Class of 2024 prepares to venture beyond the familiar halls of Saint Joe, Ben offers words of wisdom gleaned from his own journey. Encouraging graduates to embrace life's opportunities with courage and enthusiasm, he urges them to step out of their comfort zones and pursue their passions wholeheartedly. Just as Saint Joe prepared him for the challenges of college and beyond, he believes that each graduate has the potential to carve out their own path to success.

2013 Grad Raffaella Stroik Remembered in New Ballet
|
|
Raffaella is a new fairytale ballet commissioned by the Stroik family, in memory of their daughter, Raffaella Stroik '13. Inspired by her life, this all-new full-length ballet follows the lineage of classical ballets such as Giselle and The Sleeping Beauty and seeks to embody Raffaella’s motto, “Beauty will save the world.” The shows take place on June 29 at 7:30 p.m. and June 30 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased at the Morris Performing Arts Center.

The SJHS Media Center proudly displays a shelf of books authored by Saint Joseph High School graduates. We recently added The Original Mayor Pete: A Life Story by Peter J. Nemeth '59 to the shelf. We also want to recognize Joseph Anthony Rulli '83, whose 4th book, Chicago Marching: A History of Protest, Authority and Violence, won Third Place in the Chicago Writers Association's 2023 Book of the Year Award for Traditional Nonfiction. Joseph's political farce, Accidental Election of an Anarchist, will premiere in Chicago in the fall at The Athenaeum Theatre.

Happenings Around Saint Joe
|
|
Congratulations to Molly Bellia on being named Valedictorian of the Class of 2024. Molly plans to study Chemistry at the United States Naval Academy and has aspirations of being a doctor. Her favorite class at Saint Joe was AP Calculus BC because it helped her to understand how to think through complex problems. She appreciates that Saint Joe emphasizes community and teamwork as central values in life. Molly has earned recognition as the Individual Girls Tennis State Champion 2021, Individual Girls Tennis State Runner-Up 2023, Individual Girls Tennis State Quarterfinalist 2022, Indiana Team State Runner-Up 2021 and 2023, Indiana Team Semifinalist 2022, 3-time NIC MVP for Tennis, and is a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. At Saint Joe, she has been involved in Varsity Tennis, Varsity Cross Country, National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, is a Student Athlete Advisory Committee executive, and plays piano at all-school Masses. Outside of school, Molly is a cellist at St. Pius X Catholic Church and volunteers at Brickyard Healthcare.

Congratulations to Jerry Barca on being named the Salutatorian of the Class of 2024. Jerry plans to study Neuroscience at the University of Notre Dame this fall. His favorite class at Saint Joe was AP Computer Science A because it involves the most problem solving. He appreciates that Saint Joe has provided countless opportunities academically, athletically, and extracurricularly, and that he wasn’t handed success, but rather a support system that students can choose to capitalize on. Jerry has earned recognition as an Aidan Short Service Award recipient, a Rising Star of Indiana, St. Joseph County Youth of the Month, and a Lilly Endowment Scholarship recipient. At Saint Joe, he has been involved in Student Council as Student Body President, National Honor Society, Unity Council, Peer Mentors, Varsity Basketball, and Varsity Track and Field. Outside of school, Jerry volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club and the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and is a commissioned artist.

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and production team of Fiddler on the Roof. Over 700 partner school students attended the show along with hundreds of family, friends, faculty, and theatre supporters! The Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley sent a wonderful message of support, stating, "On behalf of all of us at the Jewish Federation of St. Joseph Valley, and the wider Jewish community of South Bend, we want to congratulate you, the cast and crew of Fiddler on the Roof, for your amazing production of the play. You totally captivated us with the heartwarming story you retold through song, storytelling and dance. ...although [we] have seen the movie several times, we felt like we were seeing Fiddler for the very first time."

Congratulations to Saint Joe Quiz Bowl for their impressive performance in the 2024 IASP Indiana Senior Quiz Bowl State Finals! Despite tough competition, the team finished 8th in the state with a record of 6-3. One of their notable matches was a sudden-death overtime loss against Park Tudor, who eventually became the state runner-up.

Our wonderful cafe staff hosted a Mardi Gras cookie sale that benefited one of our students who was diagnosed with leukemia. Thank you for everyone’s support and prayers, during this difficult time. Special thanks to Mrs. Duarte, Mrs. Kaiden, and Dr. Mendoza for organizing this event.

The Saint Joe Mathletes sent three teams to Trine University, led by seniors Thomas Belcher, Hetvi Patel, and Tommy Slott. Out of 36 teams competing, our main team placed in 4th place while our back-up team tied for 10th place. Individually junior Run Li tied for 3rd in the Advanced Round. Juniors Teddy Berente & Tony Wang tied for 4th in the Fundamentals Round.

Boys Basketball Heads to Semi-State
|
|
Saint Joe Boys Basketball advances to Semi-State with a 15 point win over John Glenn 53-38 in the Regional Championship Game at Washington High School. Jayce Lee lead the Huskies with 17 points including four electrifying dunks in the second half and Junior Chase Konieczny added 15 including two 3-pointers. Saint Joe had six Huskies in the scorebook. Freshman Elijah King added 8 points, Junior Brashaun Woods scored 6, Nick Shrewsberry with 5 points and Sophomore Braylen White added a bucket. Semi-State information can be found below!
