March 2024

Marching Forward

As we bid farewell to February, we find ourselves embracing the promise of March. Despite the recent winter weather, we are excited to spring forward into a season of growth and opportunity. Don't forget! Daylight Savings will begin at 2am on Sunday, March 10th. Spring Forward and remember to set your clocks 1 hour ahead.

March signals the arrival of Women's History Month, a time to honor the spirit, contributions, and achievements of women throughout history and in contemporary society. On March 8th, we celebrate International Women's Day, a global moment to recognize the invaluable role women play in shaping communities, industries, and the world at large.

Moreover, as we navigate the month ahead, we eagerly anticipate National Safe Place Week, scheduled from March 17th to March 23rd. This observance underscores our unwavering dedication to providing safe havens and comprehensive support services for children and youth facing adversity and crisis situations.

Together, let us march forward with determination, compassion, and a shared commitment to nurturing brighter futures for all.

With warm regards,

Kim Young

Senator Cortez Masto reads Mousetronaut for Nevada Reading Week 2024

For more than forty years Nevada Reading Week has been celebrated across the entire state - from small rural communities to larger urban areas.

Nevada Reading Week serves to promote a life-long love of reading. From students in Pre-Kindergarten listening attentively on a circle rug to their teacher’s riveting read-aloud to high school seniors engaging in rigorous discussions about a novel, the joy of reading is evident.

National Safe Place Week

National Safe Place Week is March 17-23, a time for us to bring attention to the impact Safe Place has on teens in our community.

What is Safe Place? It is a resource for any young person who feels threatened at home, school, or their community. They can simply call 1-800-536-4588 or TEXT "SAFE" and their current location to 4HELP (44357) for assistance. There are also many walk-up locations throughout our community - you have probably noticed the signs! If you haven't yet, you will now!

Our team is always available to answer the call or text to assess the immediate situation for safety and if necessary, provide temporary shelter. From there, we have so many other services the youth and their family can participate in, like our free family counseling, food pantry, or case management services.

A big thank you to Union Pacific Foundation and In-N-Out Burger Foundation for supporting this program!
