What is Sharenting and Are You Doing It?

Just as with our kids, caution should apply for parents using social media

By now, most parents are aware of the negatives effects that social media can have on their children. Cyber-bulling, depression, anxiety, peer pressure, body dysmorphia and other negative mental health consequences on children and youth have been on the uptick since social media has become omnipresent and there are plenty of ways parents are dealing with these consequences.


But how about the parents use of social media, and in specific posting images and other circumstances involving their children? Sharenting, as it is now being called, is the practice of posting large amounts of potentially sensitive information about their children and social media. Increasingly, according to some research, sharenting is also adding to negative consequences children suffer as a result of the proliferation of social media.

Always supervise your children when they are in or near water

So much of what makes Miami-Dade County and South Florida a paradise involves water, from the bay to the intercoastal to the great open Atlantic Ocean to backyard and community swimming pools. But with all that beauty and fun, comes a great deal of danger, especially for children and youth. 


Luckily a mixture of putting in safety features and changing behaviors can increase water safety and decrease the chances of drowning among children.

Over 1,200 Attend 18th Annual Champions for Children

The Children's Trust celebrates outstanding child advocates and programs

For two years in a row, child advocates throughout Miami-Dade County showed up for the annual Champions for Children Awards ceremony in record numbers, with more than 1,200 on hand on Thursday, April 11 at DoubleTree by Hilton Miami International Airport & Convention Center. The sold-out affair highlighted the exceptional achievements of individuals and programs committed to enhancing the lives of children and families across the county and featured emotional and inspiring honoree speeches and videos, as well as performances by talented youth.

The Trust Joins US Soccer and City Officials for First Mini-Pitch Opening in Hialeah

More Just Ball League play slated for Bright Park

Less than a month after Inter Miami CF’s first full season with Lionel Messi in its ranks kicked off at Chase Stadium in South Florida , more soccer is being played in Miami-Dade County in a slightly less celebrated, although just as inspiring, location. 


The Children’s Trust, U.S. Soccer Foundation, Miami-Dade County and Griffin Catalyst -partners in the Miami-Dade Soccer Initiative - joined together to unveil the latest soccer mini-pitch opening on March 20 in Hialeah. The pitch is located at Bright Park just next to Flamingo Elementary School and several Hialeah city officials, including Mayor Esteban Bovo Jr., attended the opening ceremony.

The Trust and Partners Relaunch More Summer Camp Choices

Miami-Dade County, Miami-Dade County Public Schools, The Children’s Trust, and the JCS 211 Miami

Helpline are proud to announce the relaunch of the More Summer Camp Choices initiative for the upcoming summer season. This partnership aims to provide access to low- and no-cost summer camp options for children across Miami-Dade County, with hundreds of listings across the county and to match your child’s interests and needs.


The centralized database lists nearly 500 summer camps funded by The Children’s Trust and over 180 camps from county and school systems. Thanks to this partnership, online searches increased 397.5% from the previous year, going from 90 in 2022 to 35,778 in 2023. Additionally, the initiative contributed to a 40% increase in calls to the JCS 211 Miami Helpline for summer camp information.


With summer just around the corner, the collaboration will continue to help parents create a fulfilling and unforgettable summer experience regardless of their financial situation. Parents can visit www.211miami.org/SummerCamps or dial 2-1-1 for more information and to explore the array of summer camp options.
