NEW IBERIA, La. --- The New Iberia Museum Foundation, Wendy Rodrigue’s Life & Legacy Foundation, First Horizon and Brown & Brown Insurance present A Night at the Museum – Celebrating George Rodrique’s 80th Birthday! on Wed., March 13, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. at the Bayou Teche Museum (131 E. Main St.), Donald “Doc” Voorhies Wing, and Sliman Theater (129 E. Main St.).
The Gala theme this year reflects the appreciation for George Rodrique’s work and talent as the museum exhibits paintings and more from Wendy Rodrigue’s private collection called Painting for Myself. The exhibit includes artwork that George painted throughout his life and for his own pleasure. The museum will feature 38 original paintings (many extremely large) and sculptures.
Gala attendees will have an opportunity to view George Rodrigue’s paintings in the Museum and the Donald “Doc” Voorhies Wing. It will be on view through May 25 of this year. Be the first to see these formerly hidden treasures.
There will also be a live auction with items that are sure to impress! The auctioneer for the evening is former Senator Fred Mills with help from Taylor Barras, who is now with the Governor’s office. The silent auction is expanding and will be available online after Feb. 26.
More great news is that area restaurants are all back and serving up the dishes that have made them famous, and the wine and beer will flow freely, too.
2023 was a very productive year for the Bayou Teche Museum. They are nearing the completion of the adjacent wing and will maintain this growth and expansion thanks to the support of generous community.
