A WORD FROM THE PASTOR

Church Family,

I am, once again, blown away by your generosity and warm welcome. We were completely surprised by the housewarming gifts and presentation on Sunday during lunch, and felt so very loved. You all have done more than enough for us in our short time with you already! From a whirlwind arrival, to broken legs, to moving, it's been quite a journey for us all. We are so incredibly grateful to be sharing life with you. Thank you, thank you.

I hope that you will make plans to attend the pastor installation service on Sunday, May 5 at 6:00 p.m. Though I often feel as if I just joined you yesterday, we have been on a journey together for several months now. We pushed the service a little further out than what your tradition has been in order to accommodate the schedules of some folks I asked to participate in the service. This is a time of commitment for us all as we officially begin a new chapter in the life of First Baptist Rutherfordton together.

This week, I have the joy of spending a few days on a retreat with my Peer Learning Group. This is a group of ministers serving in churches across the southeast that gather monthly via Zoom and in-person once a year. I look forward to being with you on Sunday, and am grateful for Chuck Godfrey who will be preaching so I had time and space for rest and renewal while I am away.

Blessings,

Aimee

CONSTITUTION AND BYLAW + MISSION STATEMENT VOTE

Don't forget that at the close of worship this Sunday, you'll be given the opportunity to vote on three items:

  1. I vote to affirm the proposed change in the Candidacy for Membership, Article 1, Section 2, of the Bylaws. The substance of the change is as follows: “Those requesting membership who have previously confessed Jesus Christ as Savior, have experienced a form of baptism practiced in another denomination, and can attest that their previous baptism is an integral part of their ongoing faith journey, may be accepted into membership by statement.”
  2. Outside of the membership change voted on above, I vote to affirm the new FBC Revised Constitution and Bylaws, which includes the establishment of a two-body leadership system (i.e., Deacon Council to coordinate ministry and Administrative Leadership Council to coordinate business).
  3. I vote to affirm the new FBC Rutherfordton Mission Statement: “Loving God, Loving Others.”

The proposed changes have been approved by the Administrative Leadership Council, Deacons, and Long-Range Planning team.

If you are unable to attend, you may pick up a paper ballot in the church office or request an online ballot by emailing Tina.

NEW HVAC UNIT BEING INSTALLED

In an emergency church conference on Sunday, we voted to replace the air conditioning unit that cooled the sanctuary. We were thankful for a cold Sunday that kept things comfortable for worship!

This replacement will be paid out of the Building Reserve Fund. The Building Reserve Fund in March had $34,807; then, we cashed stock that had been donated to the church some years ago which totaled around $31,000. That gift had already been designated to the Building Fund, bringing the total to roughly $65,000.

As soon as the replacement was approved, our HVAC vendor, Digitrol, got to work immediately. Check out the pictures of the crane removing the old unit from the roof:
