Alison Montclair’s
Sparks & Bainbridge mysteries
The fabulous Sparks & Bainbridge historical mysteries set in 1946 London combine complex and witty characters, intriguing plots, and rich historical detail. Charming and substantial at the same time, the books offer authentic depictions of post-war London, gorgeous prose, and capable, funny, and fully developed leads. Sparks and Bainbridge, a former intelligence agent and a war widow, join forces to set up a marriage bureau with the goal to knit lives together, while dealing with their own pasts and losses. Perfect for fans of Jacqueline Winspear and Susan Elia MacNeal.
Start with book 1, The Right Sort of Man (named Best Mystery of 2019 by ALA's Reading List Council), and book 2, A Royal Affair. The series gets even better with each book! Series fans will be happy to know that book 7, An Excellent Thing in a Woman, is releasing February 4, 2025.
