To Realize Bold Solutions That Dramatically Improve The Success Of Youth In The Mobile Area

Our Pillars

Every child in Mobile County deserves to receive an excellent education.

For Mobile to truly thrive in the future, its young people must be ready for employment in the thousands of high-wage, high-demand jobs in our region.

To effectively address the challenges facing our youth, our schools need the support and engagement of our entire community.

Excellent Schools: Full-Service Community Schools Partnership

MAEF, through its Mobile Area Community Schools Taskforce, partners with Chickasaw City Schools and MAEF Public Charter Schools to develop a nationally recognized full-service community school model. Full-service community schools are a strategy for organizing resources centered around student success. Community schools take a whole-child approach to student success by providing academic support, social-emotional development, healthy living, safe and supportive environments, and life skills preparedness through in-house services offered at the school. This systemic approach places the school at the center of the community. It integrates community partners into the school to support the areas of physical health, mental health, mentoring, postsecondary training, and family and community engagement.

In 2023, MAEF was the only organization awarded a Full-Service Community Schools Grant in the state of Alabama by the U.S. Department of Education. This five-year grant supports more than 2,000 students, 90% of whom are economically disadvantaged, at Chickasaw Early Learning Center, Chickasaw Elementary, Chickasaw Middle/High School, ACCEL Preparatory Academy, and ACCEL Day and Evening Academy.

Career-Ready Youth: MAEF Workforce Center

In 2023, the MAEF Workforce Center was established by the Mobile Area Education Foundation, widely known as MAEF. This center acts as a re-engagement and preparation onramp, offering a transformative opportunity for young adults aged 18-24 to overcome their circumstances and carve out a path towards a prosperous and fulfilling future.

Functioning as a bridge between aspiration and achievement, the Workforce Center serves as a gateway to a variety of career pathways. It provides free essential skills training, career exploration, industry tours, and real-world experiences tied to industry certifications for individuals residing in Mobile and its surrounding areas.

At the MAEF Workforce Center, participants delve into numerous professions guided by expert mentors and business leaders. Once they choose a career pathway in advanced manufacturing, aviation, construction, healthcare, information technology, or logistics, our commitment intensifies. We collaborate with local training providers and industry partners to deliver comprehensive training.

Engaged Community:

I-Lead 2024 Convening

The Mobile Area Education Foundation hosted the I-Lead Youth Convening on Tuesday, January 23 at the USA MacQueen Alumni Center. The convening brought together a diverse group of youth from local public and private high schools to identify both the challenges and opportunities of living in our local community - covering the topics of public safety, education, workforce readiness, and quality of life.

The I-Lead Student Advisory Board, a group of juniors and seniors from area schools, led the planning of the event. The Student Advisory Board will also compile and share key insights from the convening with the broader community this spring and summer to elevate the youth voice and increase collaboration among key problem-solvers in the Mobile area.
