For your thought:

He called the crowd with his disciples, and said to them, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me."

--Mark 8:34

SAINT MARK'S MISSION, MINISTRY & OUTREACH

Lenten Storytelling Workshop

What are the St Mark's Storytellers going to do next? How about Stories for Lent? Join us in the Lenten Storytelling Workshop on Saturday, February 24 (9 - Noon) to learn about crafting short personal stories based on your Lenten experiences. Participants will work with story prompts to help them find their stories as well as learning how to craft a compelling personal story.

We will have storytelling practice sessions on February 25, March 3, and March 17. We will then host a Sunday Evening Story Gathering on the evening of March 25th.

All are welcome at the workshop, all are welcome to craft stories, and all are welcome to enjoy the Lenten stories.

“Sharing in Jesus’ Suffering” - A Lenten Quiet Day

A QUIET DAY IN LENT

“Sharing in Jesus’ Suffering,” A Lenten Quiet Day at St. Mark’s, Saturday, March 16 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.in the Chapel. Lent and our Lord’s Passion are an invitation to us to share in his suffering through our own life-long pain and suffering so that we might also share in the new life of his resurrection.

On this quiet day morning we will engage in lectio Divina on the first part of the next day’s Gospel, John 12:20-26. For the afternoon we will experience one of Anthony DeMello’s exercises from his book Sadhana: Christian Exercises in Eastern Form, "The Sorrowful Mysteries."

The day will begin with coffee, tea, and goodies in the library at 9:30 a.m. beginning our morning session in the chapel at 10:00 a.m. The day will be mostly silent. We will reflect in small groups following the afternoon exercise and a time for silent personal reflection.

The Rev. Michael Jupin, spiritual director and contemplative prayer group leader will lead the day. Bring a brown bag lunch (water, coffee, tea provided) and sign up on the table at the church entrance or register with Fr. Michael via email here or by phoning him at 505-295-3975. Please register by Wednesday night, March 13.

Funeral Planning & End of Life Planning Resources

candle-wreath-centerpiece.jpg

Thanks to a dozen enthusiastic and supportive "table hosts", St. Mark's first annual "Funeral Planning Party" was a great success. Please remember Funeral Planning and other End of Life Resources are ALWAYS available to you and your loved ones on St. Mark's website, under the "Nurture" tab, at https://www.stmarksabq.org/end-of-life. If you know of other helpful resources that you'd like us to consider including on this page, please contact Mo. Sylvia via email here.

Lenten Lamentation Station

In this season of Lent, we acknowledge the ongoing reality of sin and suffering in our lives and in our world.

In this season, as we prepare to enter with Jesus into his suffering, we remember that Jesus has already entered into our suffering and the suffering of our whole world.

As we grieve the suffering of the earth and her children, and the suffering in our own lives, we pour out our prayers of lament to God.

We invite you to add your own prayers of lamentation (both words and images) to the cross in the narthex at St. Mark's.
