AIA Rochester Newsletter is changing

Renaming Competition!

AIA Rochester is moving away from a monthly e-newsletter and beginning April 3 we will instead send out a bimonthly update. This will keep us in touch and get new events and information in front of you sooner.

We are looking for a NEW NAME for this update and are asking our membership to contribute ideas. Keyword prompts include chapter/component, connection, update, information… If your selection is chosen by our committee you will receive a $25 Visa gift card! Email your suggestion to Linda at the email address below by Friday, March 22nd!

The new update will be clear with current AIA Rochester programs and events first, then local events of interest followed by links to AIA National programming. We will be transitioning distribution from Constant Contact to Wix as it is more cost efficient at this time. Newsletter sponsors will carry over into our new update – twice the exposure for the same sponsor amount through the end of your contract!

If you have news, program opportunities, or employee updates (new hires, registrations or achievements), please send them to Linda Hewitt at [email protected].

CSI Rochester - March Program

March 13, 2024 @ Oak Hill Country Club Architectural Restoration/ /Reproduction

Architecture transcends time, but sadly, architectural elements do not. The challenge then, is in the choice of repair; replace; or destroy and start over. It's best to preserve, but matching existing historical elements can be cost prohibitive. Fortunately, there are ways to create new profiles that are unique and cost-effective.

This program will demonstrate ways to repair and replace architectural elements and create new ones. Local projects will be used as illustrations.

Architecturally Speaking

Where is the Missing 32%

Leticia Fornataro, AIA, Elizabeth (Kirchhoff) Reynolds, AIA and Aly Mancuso contributed our most recent "Architecturally Speaking" article to the Rochester Business Journal.

In their article, Where is the Missing 32%?, the authors explore why an equal number of male and female students attend university for architecture, but only 18% of women go on to become licensed architects.

Fornataro notes, “After attending my first Women’s Leadership Summit in 2017, I realized that there were many things that can be done to better the profession for women. Despite progress, the field of architecture still faces gender inequity.”

Fornataro, Reynolds, and Mancuso outline factors that can mitigate the loss of women in architecture. “If we don’t encourage and support women through the pipeline, first in their early careers, and then into positions of leadership later in their career, this trend - of either slow growth or stagnate progress - will continue,” said Fornataro.

AIA Rochester contributes a quarterly column to the RBJ entitled “Architecturally Speaking,” which features articles from its members. Read the article in full article HERE.
