Giving Tuesday is November 28th.

As you know, our Meditation Garden suffered significant damage due to Hurricane Idalia. Large amounts of salt water sat on the ground for several days. Our landscape team did as much as they could to flush the water out when they were able to access the property — this included running the irrigation system heavily. Unfortunately, the amount of salt water absorbed into the ground killed most of the grass and plantings. Upon the landscaper's recommendations, we waited several weeks to see if anything would come back. It now looks like major repairs and replacement are necessary. This damage was not covered by insurance. 

This is such an important part of church - it is significant to many members of our congregation and to our whole community. We want to get it back in beautiful shape as soon as possible!

Church Council has asked for our Giving Tuesday fundraising this year to focus specifically on the Meditation Garden including cleaning out the dead landscaping (to be started this week), putting in new grass, and putting in new planting this spring. This all comes at an estimated cost of $82,000. 

A generous anonymous donor has stepped forward with a $10,000 challenge grant if we can raise that amount by Nov. 28. Your help would be sincerely appreciated! Feel free to make your donation electronically or using the special envelopes included in our weekend worship bulletins. 

Drive Thru Food Drive This Saturday!



On November 18th, from 10am to 1pm, SAKLC will be holding the Drive Thru Food Drive. Non-perishable items will be donated to Homeless Youth and Schoolhouse Links. Please feel free to stop by that day and donate in time for the holiday season.

"Angel Tree” Christmas Gifts

Benefiting Lutheran Services Florida Guardianship Program

Thank you to everyone who picked an angel from the Angel Tree on Sunday. Your generosity provides Christmas gifts for people served by the Guardianship Program of Lutheran Services Florida. Individuals range in age from 15 to 98. Our gifts are especially welcomed because they may be the only ones they receive. There are still angels left so please stop by and pick one or more from the tree the next time you are at church. SAKLC has committed to providing for 50 people this year. The Angel Tree is located in the SAKLC Narthex and the drive runs through December 6.

Women's Book Group

The Women's Book Group will meet in Ogram Hall, at 10:30, for our December 5th discussion of The Art of Hearing Heartbeats by Jan-Philipp Sendker. Lutheran World Relief – Personal Care Kits – CSM volunteers spent several hours unboxing and organizing materials for the upcoming event to make Personal Care Kits. It’s never to early to save the date – Saturday, February 3, 2024 stating at 9 a.m. We look forward to all hands on deck for a good time making the kits. Salvation Army Bell Ringing

November is here, so our seventh year of Salvation Army Kettle ringing will be here before you know it. Pastor Ken mentioned in a recent sermon that we should not just sit in the pew on Sunday but get up and volunteer for a worthy cause to help others. Here's an opportunity! Please sign up for a two-hour shift of "ringing the bell" for the Salvation Army's Christmas Kettle. The sign-up sheet will be in church on Sunday November 5th. Please volunteer for a shift or, even better, for multiple shifts. Could you be a five-star ringer? We actually have a few ringers that surpass that goal.  This year, we will be filling four weeks of ringing; I’m counting on you to meet the challenge. Listen for the bells in the narthex. Each year, the ELCA sponsors the "Good Gifts " program. These gifts are sent to families around the globe with the dual goal of helping to provide nourishment for the family, and also giving them a long-term source of income.

This year, SAKLC's Music Ministry is seeking to raise $2,500 for this program which will support the donation of honeybees, a family farm, a cow, school supplies for a classroom, a community fish farm, and more.

As money is given for this project, additional favorite Christmas carols will be added to a special concert given on December 5th at 7:00pm - performed by SAKLC musicians.

Refugee Ministry Thanks You!

This young man from Haiti received everything he needed for his apartment. All his spare money goes to support his parents in Haiti.

We also have apartment full of things for a family from Venezuela this week.

Refugee Ministry Needs Donations!

The Refugee Ministry has run out of furniture and mattresses with box springs to help families in need. We appreciate the generosity of the congregation and would love to continue to help refugee families. If you are downsizing or have extra, please contact the Church Office at 941-388-1234. 

There is also a request for a lawnmower.
