Growing our Welcoming Culture at St. David's

At St. David's Episcopal Church we are committed to following Jesus' example of practicing radical hospitality and seeking to find God in all people because they are of sacred worth. As we continue to grow into our proclaimed Statement of Welcome, your newcomer team has been working diligently on developing and improving processes for how we greet and welcome visitors and incorporate new members.

You will notice some changes in the forms we use to capture visitor information and some remodeling of the welcome space in the Narthex. Also important is the initiation of a greeter program that will ensure that someone is working alongside Katherine to focus on meeting and greeting St. David's visitors on Sundays. It's a simple job description, only requiring your time and attention for a few moments before, during, and after the 9:30 service. If you are interested in participating in this ministry, please contact Cathy Schwichtenberg, casschwich@gmail.com

Keep in mind that welcoming is not just the job of the greeter! We all need to attend to noticing and greeting visitors and one another on Sunday and other times we gather.

Please say hello to those you may not have met yet. We never know how any of us, or any visitor, can grow into the life of our parish!

Hold the date for our Newcomer Brunch on April 28th!

2024 Vestry Retreat

This past weekend your newly formed 2024 Vestry met for our first time together via the annual Vestry Retreat, with 3 goals in mind, namely to ...

  1. Deepen our relationship with God and one another.
  2. Reflect on our St David’s vision (statements) and begin to focus our ministries for the year ahead.
  3. Ensure that all vestry members are oriented to the work of the vestry and are equipped to serve.
  4. Check, check, and check………mission accomplished! Through much sharing, telling stories, laughing, eating, brainstorming, visioning, dreaming, discerning, and learning we were able to get this year off to a great start. The energy around the table was inspiring and I am so looking forward to working with this great group of folks who call St David’s their spiritual home.

Stay tuned…more to come!

Regards,

Diane Curley

A Trunkful of Supplies for Bimosedaa

Helping our Neighbors Exiting Encampment

St. David’s Justice Collaborative is partnering with Beacon Interfaith Housing to provide needed items for our Native neighbors exiting homelessness. Beacon's newest supportive housing called Bimosedaa in Downtown Minneapolis has opened. These 48 housing units were built in response to a previous encampment of mostly Native neighbors.

Encampments are one expression of a deeper trend of housing insecurity and homelessness.

We will collect the following new personal care items and other needed supplies to help our neighbors settle into their safe and stable housing:

The greatest need is for pillows, comforters, and dishes!

Also needed: Bath and hand towels, wash cloths, bath mats, toiletries of shampoo and conditioner, menstrual care products, body wash, tooth brushes, floss and deodorant.

Also needed are twin extra long sheets and comforters, kitchen items (1 pot, plates and cups, silverware, utensils, can opener)

The Justice Collaborative will be coordinating collecting the items here at St. David’s and then delivering them to New Branches in Minneapolis who will distribute them to the families. Bring your items to church and place in the laundry baskets in the entry starting this Sunday.  We will collect items until February 18. If you have any questions please contact Huldah Niles huldah.violin@gmail.com.

HATS & MITTENS

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed new or gently used hats, mittens/gloves, scarves and other neckware. Your generosity has been wonderful. Collection for Hats & Mittens will continue through Sunday, 2/25.

Have you noticed any hats, scarves, mittens or gloves in your closet that just haven’t been worn much the last couple years? If so, consider donating them to Hats & Mittens. There are marked boxes at the two south entrances to drop off any items you may wish to donate. So many people (infants to young adults) have kept warmer this winter because of this caring non-profit organization’s outreach.
