Celebrate the Life of Professor Janet Nichols

In September 2023, CSU Pueblo lost a stalwart member of our community. Professor Janet Nichols (Mathematics) passed away at her home in Canon City, surrounded in love with her children, Gina and Dan, after a turbulent battle with metastatic pancreatic cancer.

CSU Pueblo President, Timothy Mottet, shared the following: “With the passing of Dr. Janet Nichols, we have lost a great friend, colleague, and incredible educator. Across four decades, Dr. Nichols helped students understand and appreciate mathematics and life. Janet has been the constant on a campus full of change. She kept us grounded, and I know it’s going to take some time to find our footing again.”

A celebration of life will be held on “Math Day,” November 16, 2023, at CSU Pueblo’s Hoag Hall from 3:30-4:30pm, with a reception in the Hoag Hall lobby to follow from 4:30-5:30pm.

Please mark your calendars! CSU Pueblo’s Physical Plant OFFICE will be temporarily closed on Monday, November 20th through Tuesday November 21st. The office will be undergoing minor upgrades to better serve you. All other business will be conducted as usual, and work orders may be submitted as needed for those two days. However, if you have any key pick-up or key drop-off requests, please make sure you have them done by November 17th at 5 pm.

Campus Power Outage Scheduled

On behalf of Facilities Management

A scheduled power outage from Black Hills Energy will take place on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 from 8 AM until 12 PM. The outage will impact all areas of campus, may take less time than scheduled, and will require generator back-up power for critical systems in select areas or to support life-safety issues.

Campus will be closed all day Wednesday, November 22, but as a precaution, we would like to remind all students and staff to properly shut down computers and electronic devices prior to the outage to ensure no data is lost or equipment is damaged.

SCHEDULED OUTAGE: Campus-Wide Power Outage

IMPACT: Colorado State University Pueblo campus-wide power

DATE/TIME: 11-22-2023 at 8:00 AM

DURATION: Approximately 4 hours ,or until completed

An Introduction to CSU Pueblo’s Indigenous Land Acknowledgement

On behalf of Title V and the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Share a traditional Indigenous meal with campus community as we engage in a professional development opportunity to support the establishment of the CSU Pueblo Land Acknowledgement. Join us in a safe space to provide input, share knowledge of the stewards of this land, and in honoring traditional practices. The development of a land acknowledgement is not the final outcome of our efforts to support our Indigenous community, rather it is a discussion of the future while honoring the past.

The opening ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. CSU Pueblo is honored to create space for the Indigenous stewards from our community to participate. If you would like to support us in building community by participating in the opening ceremony, please indicate your participation using the RSVP link provided.

Discussion begins at 5:30 and the official CSU Pueblo Land Acknowledgement will be shared at 6 p.m. Please RSVP to support the organizers in planning accordingly.

John H. Giordanengo, national speaker, Colorado author, and conservationist, will explore the roots of a sustainable economy, by applying lessons from nature. Ecosystems are masters of resilience, sustaining their productivity over eons of fires, floods, and pestilence. They accomplish this by sourcing energy locally, strategic diversification, and other jungle principles showcased in this fresh talk. If we apply these lessons to our economies, what are the implications for community resilience, social justice, job creation, productivity, and a wide range of social and environmental benefits? Explore this timely question with John Giordenango.

Festivities begin at 5:30pm by lighting the tree located by the OSC patio while Ryan Van Gilder and the CSU Pueblo Brass Ensemble provide holiday music .

Following the tree lighting we will enjoy a superb holiday feast provided by Aladdin.

Santa will be present for photos along with many other family friendly activities.

Every CSU Pueblo employee will receive two(2) raffle tickets for a chance to win one of the various raffle prizes. To earn two (2) extra raffle tickets please bring one(1) unwrapped toy or 5 canned goods or non-perishable items to donate.

Call for Faculty Seed Grant Proposals (FY 2024–2025)

The Office of Research and Scholarly Activities Board is announcing the call for proposals for the Seed Grant (FY 2024 – 2025). The objectives of the Faculty Seed Grant Program are to provide support to a.) conduct well-defined and purposeful research, scholarly and creative activities that will lead directly to substantive dissemination in the form of peer-reviewed publication or other peer-reviewed intellectual or creative work, b.) encourage applications that have potential for external grant funding, and c.) support research, scholarly, and creative opportunities for CSU Pueblo students with faculty mentors. All tenure-track probationary and tenured academic and administrative Faculty of CSU Pueblo are eligible to apply for funding. A faculty member cannot submit more than one Seed proposal per grant cycle and is eligible to receive a maximum of two consecutive grants. Applications that have the potential for external grant funding are particularly encouraged. All Seed proposals must include funding for at least one registered full-time undergraduate (preferred) or graduate student. The maximum award for a Seed award will not exceed $10,000. Faculty who have never received a Seed grant and/or applications with the potential for external grant funding are strongly encouraged. The proposals will be evaluated by the Scholarly Activity Board (SAB) and will be recommended for funding based on merit only, regardless of college, school, department, or rank. A thorough and critical examination of family violence. Topics include the diverse types of family violence, consequences of family violence, criminal justice responses, trauma and violence, victims’ issues, and preventive measures and strategies for dealing with violence in the family. Although the course focusses on the American family, illustrations from other cultures are provided.

The course examines what happens when the typical social order breaks down and groups of people challenge the existing social structures. From the strange fad of streaking in the 1970's to social movements like Black Lives Matter, this course will examine social movements, rumors, riots, fads, and fashions and the unique way that sociologists study these behaviors.

Public Management Emphasis with the Online MBA program
