Contributions and Pledges

Toward our Goal of $3.2+ Million

Thanks to the incredible generosity of so many who love this special place, we continue to make great progress towards our goal of $3.2+ million!

WE'VE GOT BIG NEWS!

As we wrap up the last few details of our beautiful new staff housing, we are gearing up for a slew of exciting new projects as part of our Capital Campaign! From State mandated dam repair to much needed Tower renovations, exciting things are happening across The Mountain this year.

HOW PLEDGING MAKES A DIFFERENCE

We could not accomplish all of these amazing upgrades and important renovations without your generous and heartfelt pledges and contributions. Pledging a gift to The Mountain is an important way to help us better plan these projects in an efficient manner, saving time and money. Every dollar you pledge or contribute through 2026 goes right into funding these projects and when you return on your next visit, you'll certainly see your contributions hard at work!.

Please consider pledging today!

NEW STAFF HOUSING

We're wrapping up the exterior paint and making final adjustments to the countertops and we'll be ready to cut the ribbon and start moving staff into their amazing new homes VERY soon!

This past weekend, several members of the Spartanburg Congregational joined us for a retreat and toured the new housing. They loved the new buildings and were very impressed that we are now able to provide such quality housing for our staff.

Exciting New Projects

DAM REPAIR & LAKE RENOVATION PROJECT

There's a lot of great dam news this spring at The Mountain! We should know by the end of May if we are a recipient of the FEMA grant which will help defray the repair costs for the dam and drainage system. Keep your fingers crossed! Currently we have about $450,000 on hand towards the remaining costs of about $600,000 for repairs.

We've also got great news for our MountainCampers this summer - the work will not begin till August so you'll enjoy the full lake experience!

Once the lake is drained, we will begin to renovate and rebuild the docks, boardwalk, beach, and shed - all of which is being funded through the Endowment Annual Gift to The Mountain. It's an exciting time to be a lake lover!

THE MOUNTAIN TOWER RENOVATIONS

A Mountain icon since the early 1900's, the Tower has stood tall since Judge and Maude Parry called it home while they ran Camp Parrydise for girls from the 1920's through the late 30's. Today, it's home to amazing views, a MOTUS Wildlife Tracking system which tracks the migratory birds that pass through our area, and... well, storage.

This important, and much needed, project will fully renovate the Tower from top to bottom with new siding, rebuilt stairs, a reconfigured roof, as well as renovations to all three levels creating usable spaces. This renovation is extremely important in order to maintain the integrity of this much-loved structure and will begin in May with a completion date just in time for MountainCamp!

ELECTRICAL UPGRADES

This fall, along the Ring Road, we will be upgrading the electrical system from one circuit to two in order to make our duplex cabins and bunkhouses more energy efficient overall.

This will allow us to create more ecologically friendly electrical systems for each individual cabin - such as installing energy efficient electric hot water heaters, to help wean us off of propane and minimize our onsite use of fossil fuels. We are thankful to the Southface Institute for partially funding this project with the Southface Good Use Grant.

A Message from Mountain Supporters

Our family had the good fortune to be Charter Life Members of The Mountain. We visited from the beginning (Sandy helped lead the first summer camp) and both our daughters, our grandchildren and their friends attended camps and CONs there. Their experiences and what they gained from them are why we think The Mountain is so valuable for youth and their development. Both I and one daughter have had the privilege of serving on The Mountain Board.

We are greatly excited about the current Capital Campaign and what it means for the future for UU youth and adults. The campaign has been extremely successful so far and our excellent Mountain leadership has carefully planned and started executing the plans for the future of The Mountain as the pledges have been paid. We can all see the results of this when the new staff housing and the Crafts Barn renovation go into use next month. There are many more improvements planned and the execution of these plans only await the receipt of more pledge funds.

To complete all plans more pledges and pledge payments are needed. The campaign is still ongoing and we encourage all who can to step up and help Mountain leadership make The Mountain the best it can be for this and future generations.
