What's Happening at NSO?
Mission Moment
Tim grew up in a family with many challenges including a mother with a long history of addiction. His unstable home and a lifetime of struggling with his mental health, set Tim up for a difficult adult life. With few skills and no support, he began selling drugs to earn a living. This led to a felony conviction for narcotics distribution, and he served several years in prison.  When he was released from prison, he had difficulty finding gainful employment due to his criminal background and limited family support to help him with this transition.
This led to his homelessness, which is where the NSO Homeless Outreach Team found him.  Tim was sleeping in his vehicle outside of his mother’s home because she wouldn’t allow him to live in the house. He had been experiencing homelessness for almost 5 years.
Tim had enrolled in mental health services while homeless, but was unable to find safe, affordable housing because he had been only able to get hired for odd jobs. With the intense support of the NSO Outreach Team, Tim was able to find housing. They were also able to provide him with all the essential furniture and household goods needed for him to begin this new life. Tim has built a strong relationship with his housing case manager and is secure in knowing that he can reach out for support when needed. Tim told the Team, “This is the first time in my life that I have been stable."
