Voter Services

Mary Lou Basham

High School Voter Registration events are a top priority for our League with Devita Harden representing us on county wide coordination calls, and Linda McAteer helping onsite registration events with volunteer support.

Mary Lou Basham has the lead identifying Voter Registration opportunities throughout the county with a focus on underserved groups, young voters, neighborhood groups, and community groups. The outreach includes phone calls, emails, and networking as well as tracking contact information and follow-up. It’s a matter of time until this ongoing effort yields more than a few registration events. In the meantime, let’s build a volunteer team to support events.

Our March 10th (4pm – 7pm) participation at Soup Sunday at The Venue at Westwood is our first community opportunity this election year to register and educate voters, connect with the community, and increase the visibility of the work of the League of Women Voters. (interested in a 1 - 2 hour volunteer experience?)

How can YOU make a difference in these ongoing efforts?

Contact Linda McAteer to be added to our volunteer list.

Contact Mary Lou to share connections YOU have in the community.

A lead from a personal reference often opens doors!

From Devita Harden

On Thursday, February 22 LWVPC, along with its voting registration partner, participated in Mills University Career Fair. Students were eager to learn more about the voting process and why voting matters. There was lively discussion about the upcoming elections and the candidates on the ballot. Several students accepted the invitation to test their knowledge in the Voter Challenge trivia game.

And of course, students were encouraged to register to vote!

March 5, Volunteers Needed - Members Only

Get Loud, Arkansas has asked for our help with voter services on March 5. At the Dee Brown Library Polling Place;

  • We will provide voters a handout (if they want one) that has a QR code so that they can review a sample ballot before voting.
  • We will ask voters to complete an exit survey about their voting experience using a QR code. Voters have the option to complete it there or complete it later.

Please contact Volunteer Services if you are able to help. Shifts are 7:30 - 10:30 am, and 10:30 am - 1:30pm

Sunshine Week Kick-Off Event!

March 10 Voter Registration

Mark your calendars for March 10 and join us for voter registration at the Central Arkansas Soup Sunday, an event benefitting Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families! Soup Sunday is a family-friendly event featuring Arkansas' best soups and auction items. The venue is in North Little Rock, you can help for 1 or 2 hours, or the entire event?

Please contact Voter Services to volunteer. Event runs from 4pm - 7pm

March 10 - 16 is Sunshine Week

Sunshine Week, held the week of James Madison’s birthday (March 16), is a nationwide effort to open up dialogue on the importance of transparency in government and freedom of information. During this week, the League of Women Voters and other “good government” groups can encourage citizens to play an active role in promoting open government at all levels.

Journalists, civic groups, libraries, schools and others interested in the public’s right to know have banded together to help promote this nonpartisan effort to enlighten and empower individuals to play an active role in their government at all levels, and to give them access to information that makes their lives better and their communities stronger. The Sunshine Week initiative originated from the work of several newspapers, and it has grown, in large part, because of the media’s continued support.

Celebrating the League's Birthday

Vicki Westerfield

In celebration of the League of Women Voters 104th birthday, the LWVPC spent the evening of February 19th at historic Curran Hall in downtown Little Rock. With approximately thirty members and their guests in attendance, the League shared good food (provided by our members) and good conversation, as well as an inspiring address by Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott, focusing on future projects for our city. Thank you to Mayor Scott and to every member and guest for making our birthday party a success!
