Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us for Worship

this Sunday

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

The Scripture for Pastor Phyllis' message will be:

Joshua 24:14-15

14 ‘Now therefore revere the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness; put away the gods that your ancestors served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. 15 Now if you are unwilling to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served in the region beyond the River or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.’

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Please email them to:

Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:

Psalm 19:7-14 The Lord's Instruction is perfect, reviving one's very being. The Lord's laws are faithful, making naive people wise. The Lord's regulations are right, gladdening the heart. The Lord's commands are pure, giving light to the eyes. Honoring the Lord is correct, lasting forever. The Lord's judgements are true. All of these are righteous! They are more desirable than gold--than tons of pure gold! They are sweeter than honey--even the drippings off the honeycomb! No doubt about it: your servant is enlightened by them; there is great reward in keeping them. But can anyone know what they've actually done wrong? Clear me of any unknown sin and save your servant from willful sins. Don't let them rule me. Then I'll be completely blameless; I'll be innocent of great wrongdoing. Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

Acts 24:14-16 "...I do admit this to you, that I am a follower of the Way, which they call a faction. Accordingly, I worship the God of our ancestors and believe everything set out in the Law and written in the Prophets. The hope I have in God I also share with my accusers, that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous. On account of this, I have committed myself to maintaining a clear conscience before God and with all people..."

Nehemiah 9:28-31 But after they had a rest from this, they again started doing evil against you. So you gave them over to the power of their enemies, who ruled over them. Yet when they turned and cried to you, you heard from heaven and rescued them many times because of your great mercy. You also warned them to return to your Instruction, but they acted arrogantly and didn't obey your commands. They sinned against your judgements, even though life comes by keeping them. They turned a stubborn shoulder, became headstrong, and wouldn't obey. You were patient with them for many years and warned them by your spirit through the prophets. But they wouldn't listen, so you handed them over to the neighboring peoples. In your great mercy, however, you didn't make an end of them. Neither did you forsake them, because you are a merciful and compassionate God.

Matthew 15:21-28 From there, Jesus went to the regions of Tyre and Sidon. A Canaanite woman from those territories came out and shouted, "Show me mercy, Son of David! My daughter is suffering terribly from demon possession." But he didn't respond at all. His disciples urged him, "Send her away; she keeps shouting after us." Jesus replied, "I've been sent to the lost sheep, the people of Israel." But she knelt before him and said, "Lord, help me." He replied, "It's not good to take the children's bread and toss it to the dogs." She said, "Yes, Lord. But even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall off their masters' table." Jesus answered, "Woman, you have great faith. It will be just as you wish." And right then her daughter was healed.
