North Star District Newsletter - May 2023

There is no teaching to compare with example. - Lord Baden-Powell

Woohoo- we made it to our 2nd newsletter- consistency rocks! :)

We hope everyone finds something helpful in each month's edition- I also personally hope you'll find the Easter Egg in each one too...(which started in April's edition btw.)

This newsletter is open to all North Star District leaders, parents and anyone else who is interested in what our District has going on. We will be adding new registered leaders once a month, but if you have a new leader in your unit, please go ahead and forward this newsletter along to them. There's now a handy dandy signup link at the bottom of each email which can be used to ensure no one misses out.

Come Celebrate Bethie!

Bethie has been part of the Roundtable team since 2015, most recently as our Assistant District Commissioner - Roundtable. She has been called to other ventures within Occoneechee and National Council, so she is passing the torch to Brandon Billmeyer after June's Roundtable.

In true Scouting fashion, we must take this opportunity to celebrate Bethie, so make sure to join us on June 1st!

Roundtable is Moving!

Beginning in AUGUST 2023, Roundtable will take place at Benson Memorial United Methodist Church, 4706 Creedmoor Road, Raleigh NC 27612.

We are very grateful to St. Andrews Presbyterian for hosting our monthly events the past 2 years. And thank you to Benson Memorial United Methodist Church for opening your doors to us!

Scouting is a time-tested endeavor that instills positive values and must be a safe haven for all youth members and leaders who participate.

We strive to make sure every youth in our program is afforded a safe and enjoyable experience while participating in the program.

As a valued member of our Occoneechee Council Scouting family, we wanted to notify you of a procedural change to Youth protection training.

Please note if your YPT is not current by June 15, 2023, your registration will be suspended.

Commissioner News

Help Wanted!

Every Unit deserves a Unit Commissioner and our District has a goal of 100% Commissioner Coverage! We're currently halfway there and hope to have a full staff well in time for recharter!

Who should be a Unit Commissioner?

  • Someone with a passion for Scouting
  • Someone who is stepping down or has already stepped away from a leader role and looking to help out in other areas

Why?

  • Scouters are inherently helpful- it's in our Oath and Law!
  • It's fun!
  • By helping units, you're helping leaders, which is a direct line of sight to the youth. That's what it's all about!
  • BONUS- There's a free patch and new, shiny silver epaulets in it for you!
