What better way to celebrate Nevada's 159th birthday than by walking in the annual Nevada Day Parade on Saturday, Oct. 28? Students, faculty and staff are marching from East William to Stewart streets.

Child Development Center to Present Halloween Pumpkin Parade on Oct. 31

Superheroes, princesses, dinosaurs and more will trick or treat during the annual Pumpkin Parade at the Child Development Center at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 31. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend in costume and present goodies to these Halloween revelers.

Kyle Dalpe accepted the award on behalf of the college at the Rural Community College Alliance national convention at Columbia Gorge Community College in The Dalles, Ore.

DETR Announces Continued Support of ROADS; Reps Tour WNC Facilities

Representatives of Nevada's leading workforce development agency, the Nevada Department of Employment Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), toured Western Nevada College's Workforce, Career and Technical Education facilities on Wednesday.
DETR has announced that it will generously continue to support WNC's award-winning Realizing Opportunities for the American Dream to Succeed (ROADS) program for the next four years.

Community Backs Golf for Education; Advanced Health Care Defends Title

Fair weather, a friendly competition, generous donors and a great cause made the WNC Foundation's Golf for Education tournament successful on Sept. 29 at Toiyabe Golf Club. The fundraiser, which provides more access to higher education for students and supports workforce development in the region, attracted a full field of 36 teams.

Partnership Creates Auto Mechanics Program for Incarcerated Students
|
On Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, the first group of students incarcerated at Northern Nevada Correctional Center stepped into the auto bay for their first day of Auto 101, Introduction to General Mechanics offered by Western Nevada College. It has taken four years and the sustained effort and partnership of Campagni Auto Group, Nevada Department of Corrections (NDOC), and WNC to reach this point.

Wildcat Life Raises Breast Cancer Awareness with Pink Ribbon Day

Wildcat Life provided a vibrant burst of support to raise awareness and honor those affected by breast cancer on Pink Ribbon Day on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
Students, faculty and staff gathered outside Dini Student Center wearing pink shirts. They also made pink ribbons and tie pillows and enjoyed some pink snacks.

Manufacturing Open House Showcases New Technology, Programs
|
Potential students, area manufacturing representatives and a manufacturing business advisor turned out for the Workforce, Career and Technical Education's Manufacturing Open House on Oct. 10 at Western Nevada College's Donald W. Reynolds Center for Technology. WCTE Director Travis Carr and Industrial Technology Instructor Matthew Anderson led tours of facilities, and Anderson provided demonstrations of the college's technology.

WNC is delighted to announce the hiring of 2011 WNC graduate Kara Spracklin as the new Realizing Opportunities for the American Dream to Succeed (ROADS) program coordinator. Helping students succeed has encompassed Spracklin’s professional career as the previous coordinator of Student Success at the University of Nevada, Reno, and now in her new role at WNC.

In case you missed the annular solar eclipse on Oct. 14, Dr. Thomas Herring, director of Jack C. Davis Observatory at Western Nevada College, has you covered. Dr. Herring attended a viewing event hosted by Dr. Milinda Wasala of Great Basin College in Elko. Dr. Herring captured incredible photos with a Nikon DSLR camera on the back of the observatory's Coronado Solarmax 90 H-alpha solar telescope.

WNC Hosts Carson City Crusher Event

The Nevada Interscholastic Cycling Association utilized WNC's challenging network of trails for its season-ending Carson City Crusher mountain bike racing event on Oct. 20 and 21. More than 300 mountain bike riders from Northern Nevada middle schools and high schools competed.
