New Contract Begins at Charlotte Airport
Creating Brighter Days at CLT

Sunshine worked for the Charlotte International Airport, the sixth largest in the country, for more than 13 years providing janitorial services, ramp cleaning, parking lot sweeping and terrazzo floor care. Starting July 1, a new contract will provide CLT with full janitorial services of Concourse A as well as several remote facilities.
According to Cy Angelos, Carolinas Operations Manager, more than 100 Sunshine crew members work at the airport and more than 75 will be added to handle this new contract. Sunshine duties include such janitorial services as carpet care, floor care, restroom cleaning, policing, removing trash and various project work. In addition to Concouse A, 14 remote buildings are included in the contract.
“We’ve enjoyed a long relationship with the Charlotte Airport,” said Cy Angelos, Carolinas Operations Manager, “and are excited about providing our services to this important facility in our community.”

A native New Yorker, Tony Colazzo recently joined the Sunshine team to supervise several important Broward County facilities, including the Judicial Center, Sheriff’s Office, Main Library and Government Center.
Tony and his wife moved to South Florida during COVID from New York City, where he worked for the Ground Zero transportation hub. He began working in the janitorial and facilities management industry in 1996 and has handled such prestigious properties as the Goldman Sacks and Phillips headquarters, offices of Viacom and MTV and Trinity Church’s expansive commercial landholdings that cover 17 buildings. On 9/11, he was working in Tower B, but luckily was outside. He lost many friends and colleagues in the tragedy.
He finds working at Sunshine a unique “blessing.” “I love the people here, from upper management to the workers,” he said. “Everyone is willing to help and wants to see you succeed. You can’t beat that in a company.”
Tony and his wife have two daughters and a son and live in Boca Raton. “We’ve always wanted to live in Florida and are so happy to be here,” he said.

Shining a Light On Alva Ellis

Alva Ellis joined Sunshine in 2014 after spending more than 25 years in the cruise industry. Raised in Jamaica, he lived in Miami and Los Angeles working in housekeeping for CarnivalCruise Line, as well as the Miami International Airport and the University of Miami medical campus.
He was involved in bringing in 10 new Carnival ships and started the practice of folding towels in the shape of animals in passenger cabins. Among his many cruise stories is one about one of the new ships that featured vacuum-style plumbing. The new technology, combined with passengers thinking it was ok to flush washcloths, created an unimaginable disaster. “We had 650 blocked toilets on board at the same time,” he recalled. “It took 18 months to repair the plumbing systems.”
That crisis, however, was a gift to Ellis in two ways. Most recently, the flooding at the Hollywood-Fort Lauderdale International Airport, seemed to pale in comparison. He and his crew worked hard and all night, but calmly and efficiently handled the water intrusion and clean up in the terminals. In addition, the cruise misadventure inspired him to invent an “out of order” plastic cover for commercial toilets, a product he launched earlier this year.
His dedication to Sunshine remains steadfast, however, as he still remembers being hired by Sunshine Founder Larry Calufetti and believes those strong family roots and commitment to delivering unwavering excellence to customers make the company special.
“I learned directly from Larry the importance of being helpful and doing our best in every situation,” he said.
The father of three and grandfather of one lives with his wife in Miramar.
