GGUSD Students Outperform County and State on State Assessments


This week the California Department of Education released statewide results of the 2022-2023 California Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC) assessments, which show that GGUSD students continue to outperform the county and state in both English Language Arts and mathematics for the fourth consecutive year.

GGUSD also maintains its rank as the fifth highest performing district among large California districts with 34,000 or more students.

Morningside Mustangs Learn to Play Strings

Nearly 90% of Morningside Elementary School's fourth grade students are giving the school's Beginning Strings program a try. Students are learning to play the violin, viola and cello. Kudos to Mr. Reese and the school's fourth grade teachers for encouraging student participation in this program. Music education has many benefits to students and can help boost learning across content areas. Go Mustangs!

Paine Students Get a Visit from Mobile Dental Unit

Paine students were all smiles as local dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants rolled onto campus in their mobile dental unit. Because the quality dental care was provided in the familiar and comfortable school environment, students were at ease and happy to receive goody bags with items to keep their smiles healthy and beautiful! GGUSD schools do a great job supporting the whole child!

Stanford Students Practice Emergency Preparedness

Stanford Elementary School students and staff practiced their emergency preparedness skills for California's Great Shakeout. Emergency drills are an important component to fostering safe schools!

District Supports Expansion of Art and Dance Instruction

Recently Garden Park Elementary School students explored their creativity through art thanks to a district initiative to expand art and dance instruction for elementary school students, funded by California Proposition 28, Arts and Music K-12 Education Funding Initiative. We know that giving students the opportunity to explore their artistic side and get more movement during the school day has a significant benefit to their overall well-being (Goal 2).

GGUSD Tennis Teams Named League Champions

This week saw some exciting wins for girls' tennis teams.


For the third year in a row, La Quinta girl's tennis are league CHAMPIONS! The Aztecs finished undefeated in the Garden Grove League This is the Aztec’s 17th league title in girls' tennis.


For the 12th year in a row, Garden Grove girls' tennis are league CHAMPIONS! The Argos finish the season undefeated in the Golden West League This is the Argos 27th overall league title in girls' tennis, the most of any sport at Garden Grove HS.

GGUSD Board of Education Honors Employees of the Month

At its meeting on Tuesday, GGUSD's Board of Education honored our October Employees of the Month : Servando Quintana, Custodian at Wakeham Elementary School and My Williams, Teacher, Cheer Adviser and Activities Director at Los Amigos High School. Watch our video spotlight to see how these employees exemplify the Garden Grove Way! We are so grateful for dedicated hard-working employees who give their all to support GGUSD students!

Hazard Guest Author Inspires Love of Writing

Hazard hosted a special guest and comic book writer, Mat Heagarty, author of LumberJackula.  Writer Heagarty visited upper grade classrooms and shared his journey in school where his challenges with reading and difficulty with focusing led to a love for comic books and graphic novels. His love of writing, sparked in first grade, ultimately led to publishing several books and seeking to share his passion with students. During his visit to each upper grade classroom, Hazard scholars got a chance to create their own comic book entry as they engaged in a collaborative writing project. All students came away inspired to write and motivated to overcome their own challenges in life to pursue their dreams! 

SRO Julienne and Misha Visit Fitz Intermediate School

Fitz Intermediate Language Academy had a special guest this week and she was a hit. Fitz Falcons enjoyed spending their lunch with K9 Misha and GGPD School Resource Officer Julienne.

GGUSD Hosts Parent Workshop on Drug Prevention and Social Media

GGUSD families are invited to a presentation on Drug Prevention and Social Media led by Clayton Cranford, a leading expert in social media safety and preventing risky behavior in children. The event will be held on Monday, October 23 at Bolsa Grande High School with a Resource Fair from 5 to 6 p.m. and the presentation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Parents may attend in person or via zoom. Childcare will be provided for children ages 2 to 10 and interpretation will be provided in Spanish, Vietnamese and Korean. GGUSD Hosts Upcoming Job Fair on October 26

GGUSD is hosting a Job Fair on Thursday, October 26th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. to promote in-demand job opportunities at our award-winning school district. The Job Fair will be held at Lincoln Education Center, 11262 Garden Grove Blvd. in Garden Grove.


Those who attend can learn about existing opportunities to work in GGUSD, speak one-on-one with hiring managers, and complete applications on site. Some of the opportunities include Food Service Workers, Instructional Aides, Substitute Teachers, Spanish School Community Liaisons, Special Education Instructional Assistant II, and more.



GGUSD is known for our amazing professional culture where employees feel like family, as well as our robust professional development, and competitive salary and benefits packages.


We hope to attract members of our school communities, GGUSD graduates, and area parents who may want to work in their local neighborhood school and enjoy the flexibility of positions like Food Service Workers and School Liaisons.


All job seekers are encouraged to bring their driver’s license or California ID.

GGUSD invites all parents to participate in the virtual Parent University program in partnership with Fresno State University. Registration begins now for the FREE virtual classes that begin next week, October 23. There is no cost for the classes which are held 2 days a week for 4 weeks from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Sign up now to enroll in Digital Literacy, English Conversation, Financial Literacy, Health and Wellness, Pathway to College, Small Business Development, Social and Emotional Wellness, or Spanish Conversation. A new schedule of four-week Parent University classes is offered each month. Use the QR code to sign up.


GGUSD Earns State Award for Mental Health Program

GGUSD's ASPIRE system of care earned a prestigious 2023 Golden Bell Award from the California School Board Association as a model of excellence in supporting student mental health and well-being. ASPIRE, a three-tiered innovative approach to school-based mental health counseling, has made a transformative impact on the mental health needs of students in GGUSD (Goal 2)
