GST/HST Tax Break from Dec. 14 - Feb. 15, 2025 | |
The federal government is providing a two-month break on GST/HST for groceries and holiday essentials. Ontario families that spend $2,000 on qualifying purchases over the two-month period will see savings of approximately $260. Businesses are expected to remove the GST/HST on qualifying goods at checkout as of December 14, 2024. Consumers will be able to buy the following products tax free: prepared foods, restaurant meals, snacks, alcoholic beverages below 7 per cent, children's clothing and footwear, toys, car seats, games, puzzles, books, Christmas trees, video game consoles and diapers. Children's toys, such as board games, dolls, and video game consoles.

Living Wage Increases to $21.65/hour | |
The living wage has increased across Eastern Ontario. According to the Ontario Living Wage Network, a living wage is the hourly wage a worker needs to earn to cover their basic expenses and participate in their community. Petawawa falls in the East Region where the living wage has increased to $21.65 per hour in 2024, up 5.1% from 2023. Minimum wage in Ontario is currently $17.20 per hour. Living Wage Employers invest in the long-term prosperity of the economy by fostering a dedicated, skilled and healthy workforce. The Ontario Living Wage Network charges $150 dollars a year for businesses with under 10 employees who want to become certified. Certified living wage employers are committed to paying all direct and indirect employees the living wage for the region.
