You are invited to the Joint ACEC Florida | FES Energy Committee meeting on January 17, 2024, at 3:30 pmThe speaker will be Lauren Sher, Senior Director for Decarbonization at Florida Power & Light Company (FPL). FPL has said it will eliminate all carbon emissions from its power plants through the use of solar power, battery storage, green hydrogen, and existing nuclear power. FPL said its goal is called “Real Zero” because it doesn’t rely on offsets or net-zero emissions. Join us to hear more!

This is a 2-day training course to introduce OpenRoads Designer CONNECT Edition - OpenRoads Technology tools for Plan Development Workflows on Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) projects. The curriculum was developed within the FDOTConnect Workspace to provide sample exercises for most of the new Plan Development tools on a sample project data set.

2024 Professional Engineers Legislative Days Recap

Last week, nearly 200 professional engineers made their voices heard on behalf of our industry during the 2024 Professional Engineers Legislative Days. With over 90 legislative appointments and several impromptu meetings, our members shared their thoughts on proposed legislation for this year’s regular legislative session. 


We encourage our members to take an active role in the legislative process by joining us for our weekly calls (see below). Once the Session has concluded, we hope you will take the opportunity to schedule appointments with your legislators in their district offices. In January, the ACEC Research Institute announced a major donation from ACEC Florida.

Hires, Promotions & Other Firm News

Cornelius Joins Terracon as Office Manager


Will Cornelius II, PE, recently joined Terracon Consultants, Inc.’s Fort Lauderdale office. He will manage Terracon’s local 25-person environmental, geotechnical, and materials professionals team.


Cornelius brings nearly 20 years of geotechnical engineering, construction materials testing and inspections, and client management to the Terracon team, having worked on critical infrastructure, transportation, and commercial facilities projects throughout South Florida.


In addition to being a Florida licensed professional engineer (PE), Cornelius actively participates in the local engineering community through the American Council of Engineering Companies of Florida (ACEC Florida), Florida Engineering Society (FES), American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), and Florida Associate of Environmental Professionals (FAEP). He earned his master’s degree in structural and geotechnical engineering from the University of Central Florida where he also received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
