Celebrate Our Graduates

Fall 2023 Celebration of Graduates

October 18, 2023

10 a.m.


The Fall Convocation ceremony will take place on Wednesday, October 18 at 10 a.m. at Western's Alumni Hall, with a reception to follow in the Garron Family Learning Lounge in the Student Life Centre. Convocation is one of the most important community events at King’s, when we gather to celebrate the efforts and achievements of our new graduates. Please join us in congratulating our new graduates!

How to Fail at Everything and Publish a Book Anyways

Téa Mutonji, the current writer-in-residence at Western, will talk about her journey as a writer, the obstacles that stood in her way, as well as how she overcame them and managed to publish an award-winning book despite “failing at everything.” The event will also feature Mutonji reading from her book, as well as a Q&A session with the audience.

Do you know any Brescia students interested in learning more about life at King’s? We are having an information session on October 17 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Academic Pavilion on Brescia's campus. We will have representatives from Enrolment Services, the Academic Dean’s Office, Student Affairs and King’s International providing information and answering questions. 

Fall Community Garden Clean-up

October 17, 2023 (Rain date: October 24, 2023)

4 - 5:30 p.m.

Community Garden behind the International House


We will be doing some light cleanup, planting garlic and perennials and digging up river-rock. Come dressed for work. Some gloves are available or bring your own. The garden is located behind the International House (behind the dumpsters in the south-west corner of the Library parking lot.) All are welcome.

CILD Fall Gathering of Associates and Friends

Join us for an gathering of friends and associates from the King's Centre for Interreligious Learning & Dialogue (CILD) event. There will be three small presentations on different topics pertaining to interreligious learning & dialogue’. There will be time for questions and comments after the presentations. Don't miss this opportunity to connect, learn, and share!

Dr. Rebecca Carter-Chand on American religious responses to the rise of Nazism

Dr. Rebecca Carter-Chand, Director of Programs on Ethics, Religion, and the Holocaust at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., will present on "American Religious Responses to the Rise of Nazism." The talk is sponsored by the Academic Dean's Office and the departments of History and Religious Studies, and is co-sponsored by the J.M.S. Careless History Club.

Celebrate Women's History Month



The government of Canada designated October as Women's History Month in 1992. This annual celebration of the outstanding achievements of women throughout Canada's history includes International Day of the Girl on October 11 and Persons Day on October 18. Our Women's History page highlights interdisciplinary courses at King’s, books on women’s history by King’s faculty and recommendations for further reading from the King’s Library.

Feedback Requested for Gender-based Sexual Violence Policy and Code of Student Conduct

 

King’s is reviewing our Gender-based Sexual Violence Policy to better support survivors and students and ensure that there is a clear process for disclosures and complaints. King's Code

of Student Conduct is also being reviewed to better support students. 

 

We welcome your feedback and suggestions, so we can improve these policies. You can share your comments and ideas regarding our Gender-based Sexual Violence Policy and our Code

of Conduct until the end of December.

St. Joe’s Café - Cancelled for October 21


Campus Ministry has been informed that we will not be able to volunteer at St. Joe's Café on October 21.


St. Joe’s Café is transitioning to being open seven days a week. This involves additional staffing requirements. Once these are in place (which should be soon), the King's community will be able to return to our regularly scheduled volunteer days.

Free French Peer Tutoring

 

The French Program at King's is proud to introduce the free French peer tutoring service. Drop in if you need help with your French, or if you are interested to chat in French with welcoming native speakers.

Participate in a Research Project About Safety and Equity


Students experiencing barrier(s) to safety, inclusion, and wellbeing on campus are invited to participate in a student-led, collaborative research project exploring students' priorities for additional campus resources, and their responses to racism, ableism, gender-and sexual-based violence, violence against 2SLGBTQIA+ people (and their intersections).


Register before October 27, 2023.

October is Cyber security Awareness Month


King’s ITS will be promoting the importance of cyber security, providing tips and best practices to enhance your digital protection. Look for the unique posters on campus and a booth in the Student Life Centre on October 23 -24. 2023. Visit ITS' Cyber Security page.

Nominations for King's Recognition Awards


Nominations are open for the two new annual awards for non-faculty staff, the King's Culture Award and King's Service Excellence Award. Nominations will remain open until October 27, 2023. 


We encourage all students to take advantage of this opportunity to nominate those who exemplify the best in King’s as a place to be, a place to become and a place to belong.

In the News

King’s signs MOU with International University, Viet Nam National University Ho Chi Minh City


The Memorandum of Understanding, signed during a delegation from King’s visit to Vietnam, aims to provide more support and opportunities for students and faculty. It will open the door to exciting experiences such as semester abroad exchanges, internships, and joint research projects. This partnership is a reminder that global connections can enrich your academic journey and broaden your horizons.

MEM Career Readiness


Career Readiness workshops will help you enhance your professional, technical and networking skills. Students who attend a certain number of Career Readiness events by their third year at King's will qualify for their co-curricular record and a certificate from the Registrar's Office. This program is open to all students but tailored to the students in the School of Management, Economics, and Mathematics.

Campus Ministry

Join us for Sunday Eucharist


Masses are offered in The Chapel at Windermere on the Mount (WOTM) on Sundays at 10 a.m. and at 5 p.m. followed by the community meal in the parish hall. Weekday Masses will be on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at WOTM and noon mass on Thursdays and Fridays at King's Christ the King Chapel.

Ecological Day of Reflection

October 28, 2023

8:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.


Discover and create a life connected to earth and others by reflecting, meditating and conversing with one another. Join fellow students for a day of reflection at the Ignatius Jesuit Centre in Guelph. Cost is $20 which includes meals and transportation. Register before October 24, 2023 (space is limited).
