New York State’s ConnectALL Office has announced the start of the next phase in the state’s broadband funding process: the broadband challenge period. This is an important step in making sure organizations and individuals across the state are eligible to take advantage of future state and federal funding for internet connectivity and digital equity.
Libraries can participate in two important ways:
1. Make sure your library is categorized correctly to be eligible for funding, and
2. Help with outreach to your community to make sure individual households are categorized correctly.
To learn more about this crucial step and how you and your library can participate, please register for the free webinar on March 21st at 3:00 pm, targeted specifically to libraries and other governmental and non-profit organizations. For more information about the Challenge Process including flyer templates to use in your community visit, https://broadband.ny.gov/new-york-state-broadband-challenge-process.

Unite Against Book Bans has recently launched Book Résumés, a free resource to support libraries, and other community advocates in their efforts to keep frequently challenged books on shelves.
Each book résumé summarizes the book’s significance and educational value, including a synopsis, reviews from professional journals, awards, accolades, and more. Where possible, the book résumés also include information about how a title has been successfully retained in school districts and libraries after a demand for removal. The downloadable PDF format allows easy print or electronic sharing with administrators, book review committees, board meeting attendees, and the general public.
This is a great resource in advance of the second annual Right to Read Day on Monday, April 8 as part of 2024's National Library Week (April 7 - 13). Unite Against Book Bans will be regularly expanding and updating the collection, particularly in advance of National Library Week.
