COMMUNITY VOICES

Meet Ellen Ryan, Project Manager, PMINYC PDD Facilities Program Manager, Writer and Trumpet Player:

"I have enjoyed multiple careers in primarily male-dominated areas—on television news crews, in media technology (including project management), media technology standards, and as a trumpet player. At times, I have had to prove myself because I am a woman, whereas a man was assumed to have been competent simply by having been assigned the same role.

I have found that thorough preparation and knowing one’s worth are critical keys to success. I had been promoted to a new role, but gained only a small bump in salary. I then found out quite by accident that a colleague in a similar role was paid significantly more. I advocated for myself and was given a commensurate raise. In my current role editing and managing media technical standards documentation, I continue to educate myself to keep abreast of advances in multiple technologies, earning not only respect but gratitude when I flag errors or suggest improvements to documents and workflow. To my fellow Women’s History Month celebrants, believe in yourself!"

In Memory of James R. Snyder

Affectionately known as the "Father of PMI”, Mr. James R. Snyder's legacy is deeply ingrained in the heart of the Project Management Institute and our community at large. Serving as a PMI founder, PMI Fellow, its first Executive Director and Past Board Chair, he shaped PMI's ethos and direction.

Mr. Snyder’s leadership as a member of the PMI Educational Foundation’s Board of Directors and Editorial Review Board of the Project Management Journal exemplify his commitment. Yet his influence extended beyond titles, fostering community and knowledge-sharing through initiatives like the PMI Delaware Valley Chapter and Pharmaceuticals Specific Interest Group as well as the construction of PMI's World Headquarters

We honor Mr. Snyder's remarkable journey with gratitude, inspired by his unwavering dedication to excellence and his influence on project management worldwide. In his stead, we are committed to further advancing the project management principles he held dear. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

ICYMI...

Thursday, February 22nd, transcended the routine of volunteering at the Food Bank for NYC's Community Pantry; it evolved into a collective endeavor to confront hunger and uplift those in need. Collaborating with dedicated individuals and driven by a shared sense of purpose, we diligently sorted, packed and distributed essential food items.

Observing the impact of our contributions reflected in the expressions of those receiving support was a deeply humbling experience. The ethos of community and compassion resonated through every moment, transforming the hours at the Food Bank into more than a mere task; they became an opportunity to forge connections and create a meaningful impact on lives.

Our hearts overflow with gratitude for our dedicated PMINYC volunteers who participated, illustrating that even seemingly small acts of kindness possess the power to ripple into profound change. Kudos to each one of you for contributing to a brighter, more nourished future for all!
