Message from Pastor Carolyn

Friday, December 22, 2023

Dear Saint Mark Family,

God’s grace and peace be with you.

Let me begin by saying how wonderful it was to be in worship with you this past Sunday. From the beautiful music by the choir and the melodious sounds of the handbell choir, to the congregational fellowship and the inspiring liturgy, Sunday was a joyful experience.

Thanks to the choir and handbell members for their gift of music to us, and to Justin Bowen and Amy Holloway for directing the choir and the handbells. We are truly blessed to have them be a part of our worship experience.

On Sunday I spoke about the young adult ministry, and the work Meagan Williams has been doing with the group. Wednesday night they had their young adult Christmas party, and nearly 20 young adults showed up to fellowship together - a picture of the group is posted on our church’s website and on our Instagram page. The young adult ministry is an example of one of the many wonderful things God is doing at Saint Mark, and I am looking forward to its continued growth in discipleship and in the life of our church. We are thankful for Megan, and for her continuing to be with the young adults in the coming year.

Please remember to complete your “Making My Mark” financial commitment for our 2024 Ministry year. You can do it on the commitment card, online, or calling the office and doing it directly with Deana Hilton, our executive director.

Making your commitment now will enable us to be prudent in how we plan the vital and enriching ministries for our church for the coming year. It will also enable us to be good and wise stewards of the resources God has entrusted to us. Your current and incoming finance chairs, Mark Woods and Greg Washington, along with incoming vice chair, Susan Spencer, and other members of the finance team are committed to ensuring your generosity is honored and used to the glory of God.

I also encourage you, if you are behind on your 2023 commitment, please go ahead and fulfil it now, so we can close out the year well. If you are caught up, and have the ability to do more, I ask you to consider prayerful doing an extra mile giving to prevent us from having a shortfall. Your giving makes life-changing ministries possible in our church, and beyond the walls of Saint Mark. Thank you for your generosity, and for your obedience to the Spirit.

This Sunday there will be 4 worship services:

  • Advent Communion service at 11:00am.
  • Christmas Eve Family and Candle Lighting service at 5:00pm
  • Christmas Eve Lessons and Congregational Singing and Candle Lighting service at 7:00pm
  • Christmas Eve Communion and Candle Lighting service at 11:00pm.

Reverend Jimmy Moor will assist in leading in our 11:00pm service. I encourage you to come on out and let us celebrate the birth of our Lord, and the good news of God’s incarnation in the world. Take your family. Invite a friend. Tell others. Spread the word. It will be a glorious time at all of our services.

If you are traveling for the holiday, I pray God’s grace will go with you. Be safe. Be wise and conscientious in your driving, traveling, and in all you do. Be the light wherever you go. Share the Light wherever you are. And if I do not see you before the new year, Merry Christmas and a Joy-filled and Peaceful New Year.

God’s richest blessings,

Pastor Carolyn.
