Open gyms will be held on Mondays 10/2, and 10/9 at Elmwood Gym from 4-6 p.m. Tryouts will be held from 4-6 p.m at Elmwood on Monday, 10/16. Our intent is to field two teams, but that is dependent on finding an additional coach for the other team. As always, please report absences, late arrivals, or early pick-ups to the office by text (484-255-8384), email (skennedy@independence.k12.oh.us), or phone call (216-642-5865).


For ALL appointments, bring in a "School Excuse Note" from your provider to have the absence "Medically Excused."


Last but not least, for upcoming non-medical absences of 2+ days, please complete and return the "Planned Absence Form." This form gives the school advance notice of your absence and teachers an opportunity to collect make-up work for students and can be found here on the ILS website: ILS (LINK)

All-Pro Parent Breakfast


Today we hosted our 5th-grade families with a great message from Mr. DeAngelis and Mr. Hegedish. The IMS community would like to thank all of the families that attended. Also, a big thank you to Terrace Construction and the Jaronowski family for sponsoring this morning's experience.

Photos/Videos Needed for Newscast 


Do you have pictures/videos of your children participating in school events like sports, clubs, or activities? If so, the WIMS crew would love for you to share them with us! The WIMS crew produces our morning announcements and newscasts. The first trimester newscast may feature the following segments: 8th Grade DC Trip, WIMS, Golf Club, Builder’s Club, Junior Biology, Football, Cheer, Volleyball, Cross Country, Shoe Drive, Fall Fest, Halloween at school, Spirit Week, WEB, Yearbook Club, Student Council, Donuts, Popcorn, Canned Food Drives, Fundraisers, Gamer's Squad, the IMS School Play, and possibly more. No video is too short or too long! 


Students can upload videos to the WIMS Google Classroom. The code to join the classroom is evfppvs. 


Parents can either have their children upload videos/pictures to the WIMS Google Classroom or they can be emailed to rpietrzak@independence.k12.oh.us


We will be accepting videos/pictures all year long for even more sports and activities. Feel free to keep sharing. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask Rachel Pietrzak at rpietrzak@independence.k12.oh.us

Grade Level Learning Guides and Workload

For those interested in looking at and referencing the week's workload (classwork, tests, projects, etc.) in a snapshot each grade level updates every week for students and parents to reference.

Parents and Students, 


The DC Trip will be here in just 2 short weeks! Here are a few reminders for the upcoming trip. 


1. If you would like to purchase a Panoramic Group Class Photo, please fill out the attached form and return it to Mrs. Vecchio by Monday, October 9th with payment by check to Nations PHOTO, Inc. for $29.95. Please leave the "SHIP ADDRESS" blank OR use the school address. All photos ordered will be sent to IMS and then distributed to any students who ordered a picture.  


2. Rooming/bus/Chaperone lists will be released on Friday, September 29th at the end of the school day via email and posted on the wall outside of my classroom.


3. Medication forms were due last week on Friday, September 22nd. Please make sure to get the forms turned in, if you have yet to do so.  


4. Any medications that need to be taken with students while in DC should be turned in to Mrs. Vecchio or the office by Thursday, October 5th. Please reach out if you have any questions about medications.

The City of Independence is here to support families in our community through the Yuletide Hunger Program, Adopt A Family and Shop With A Cop. If your family’s holiday season could be made a little brighter by participating in one of these programs, please connect with Community Services Director Emily Thomas at 216-524-7373 or thomase@independenceohio.org. 5th and 6th grade Intramural Kickball


Intramural kickball kicks off next Tuesday (10/3/2023). 5th graders will play during the first half of their 5° lunch/recess followed by the 6th graders who will play during the second half of their lunch/recess. Games will be played three days a week (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & and Thursdays). Sign-ups were this past week and the final day to sign up is Monday (10/2/2023). Grade level sign-up sheets are located outside the main office.

Book Talkers Tween Book Club


Grades 5-8

3:15-4:15 Tuesdays, October 10th and November 14th

 

Chat about your recent reading adventures with Library staff. Group members can share books they've enjoyed and will walk away with some great book suggestions and a journal to take reading notes in! Bring your library card so we can order copies of all the great books you find to read!
