Educate. Screen. Prevent.

To some people, October means fall. To others, it means football. Still others think festivals or pumpkin-spice everything.

But when October rolls around here at St. Tammany Health System, we can’t help but to think pink.

On Sept. 22, we kicked off our third annual St. Tammany United in Pink campaign, an awareness and fundraising push timed to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month and designed to rally the community around Northshore cancer care.

This is a moveable, monthlong celebration uniting a small army of community stakeholders to raise money for community screenings and raise awareness of the importance of early detection for both breast and lung cancer.

Central to it all is our Be Well Bus, a 40-foot motorcoach outfitted with a variety of advanced screening equipment. You’ll see it throughout the parish over the next several weeks, attending more than a dozen local events. You’ll find events and locations here

There’s also the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office pink-wrapped police cruiser, which people can sign in return for a $5 donation.

There’s the Covington Beer Garden, which will host a free Ladies Night Out event on Oct. 6 combining good health and good fun.

The list goes on.

We invite you to visit StTammanyUNITED.org to learn more about other upcoming events – and we’ll save a seat for you on board the Be Well Bus!

All aboard!

St. Tammany Health System Director of Community Outreach Anne Pablovich invites you to join the third annual St. Tammany United in Pink campaign, which benefits local cancer screening and treatment programs.

‘They’re not just surviving. They’re thriving’

Amedee Frederick knows all about the blues. They don’t call the Abita Springs musician “The Creole-Cajun Bluesman” for nothing.

But on Friday (Sept. 22), Mr. Frederick was all smiles as he took the stage with his son’s band, the Pontchartrain Shakers, to celebrate Survivors Day at St. Tammany Cancer Center – A Campus of Ochsner Medical Center.

That’s because, like so many others in attendance, he is himself a cancer survivor, having lived for more than four years with pancreatic cancer.

Salmon Power Bowl

The ingredients list for Chef Osman Rodas’ Salmon Power Bowl recipe looks ordinary enough: garlic, olive oil, ginger, spinach, things like that. But the recipe’s star ingredient is one most people probably aren’t quite as familiar with.
